Students can now apply for relief funds
There isn’t a sector of American life which hasn’t been touched by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the general financial situation in the country having been made an awful lot worse for the vast majority of the population.
The education sector has also been hit, with students struggling to pay college tuition fees as the pandemic has continued to hit families across the nation.
HEERF fund is a pot of money which may be used by students to pay for any component of their cost of attendance such as tuition, fees, food, housing and health care.
Students must have been enrolled during the COVID-19 pandemic and met at least one of the following eligibility criteria to be considered for HEERF grant money:
There is a level of uncertainty over whether or not students have to have fully filled out the FAFSA forms in order to be eligible for the HEERF payments, although it seems as though that is decided on a school-by-school basis.
The funds have already been appropriated to the education sector by the federal government as part of the American Rescue Act, spearheaded by President Biden.
The grand total made available by Congress to the schools was around 76 billion dollars, and schools are allowed to then distribute these grants to students who apply, although there have been reports of some cases where eligible students have received money without even asking for it.
These measures are in place to ensure students can still afford to complete their courses, especially students who have part-time employment and those who are parents to children.
