It’s the season of giving, and Cochrane’s Free Food Shed has received a spectacular donation from Elizabeth Barrett Elementary School.
Kindergarten classes came together for a holiday food drive to collect a variety of food to ensure no Cochranite goes hungry this season.
“They were really excited about it,” says Bhari Rovere, kindergarten teacher at Elizabeth Barrett Elementary School. “They decorated boxes. They put little donation signs on and were really excited to tell their parents about the donations.”
“There was a list of items that were popular and needed items for people in Cochrane. The kids were really excited to help families.”
Donations included various holiday meal staples including stuffing, pies, and even turkey and hams.
“These food drives are extremely important, without the donations like this, we’re relying on not much else for a resource and sometimes the shed can be empty,” says Helping Hands food security programs manager, April Baird.
“Today it’s extremely full and that’s full of love for us and for the community.”
The Helping Hands Free Food Shed also received donations this week from the senior high boys’ group at C3 Calgary West and a local preschool.
