The course is part of the government’s HGV bootcamp initiative.
SOUTH Essex College has been chosen to deliver free professional driver qualifications as part of the government’s HGV Bootcamp initiative.
Courses will last up to 16 weeks and are aimed at people who are new to HGV driving or who want to upgrade their licence.
Applicants must be aged 19 or older and hold a full category B (car) licence with no penalty points.
Mark Bentley, logistics operations director, said this is key in helping address the driver shortage.
“This is a great opportunity for people to gain the skills needed to provide an essential service.
“As courses are free, there has never been a better time for people to upskill or take on a completely new qualification.”
Courses will be run at the college’s Basildon Luckyn Lane and Grays High Street campuses.
