The Punjab state government has said that its employees won’t be given salaries if they don’t furnish their vaccination certificates. They will have to upload their vaccine certificates, even if they have received just one dose, on the state government’s job portal iHRMS.
The government’s order is aimed at pushing people to vaccinate themselves at a time when the highly-transmissible new coronavirus variant, Omicron, is sweeping through the UK and the US, and replacing Delta as the dominant variant in several countries.
India on Thursday reported 7,495 Covid cases over the past 24 hours, with Omicron cases going up to 236. At present, over 50% of the country’s population is fully vaccinated. In Punjab, the weekly tally of Covid-19 cases has plunged as new infections dropped over 10% in the past four weeks. Also, the state has so far reported no case of Omicron infection.
