BPL 2022: There is no hiding from the fact that Test and ODI format ruled the sport, without second thoughts. Needless to say, the ICC officials just had a feeling that the Twenty20 cricket would go on to become one of the best in terms of entertainment.
Their guess was right! The grand success of the inaugural edition of the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007 led to the introduction of different franchise cricket leagues globally. The Indian Premier League began in 2008.
India’s premier T20 competition has finished 14 seasons already. Meanwhile, Australia’s Big Bash League has completed 10 seasons since its inception. On the contrary, Pakistan has its own franchise cricket league i.e. Pakistan Super League.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) set up its own franchise cricket league back in 2015. Meanwhile, Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League hogged the limelight in 2011, established by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
It has successfully completed seven seasons already. Top players have represented the franchises which made the tournament a big hit. Now, it is gearing up for the eighth season.
Fans just can’t wait to witness the spectacle. Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League’s governing council officially announced that six franchises for the eighth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced that the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 2022 will kick off on 21 January. Cricbuzz had earlier reported that the BCB finalized the six teams.
The six teams are – Barishal (Fortune Shoes Limited), Chattogram (Delta Sports Limited-Akhtar Group), Cumilla (Comilla Legends Limited), Dhaka (Rupa Fabrics Ltd & Marn Steel Ltd (Consortium), Khulna (Mind Tree Ltd), Sylhet (Pragoti Green Auto Rice Mills Ltd).
It is going to be a 36-match six-team competition that will kick off in double round-robin league format. After that, three play-offs and a final follow up. Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet will be the host venues. The BPL 2022 final is scheduled to be held on February 18.
Meanwhile, the Player Draft of BPL 2022 will kick off at Radisson Blu Water Garden, Dhaka on December 27. Each team is permitted to add three overseas players in the XI for a match. On the other hand, a team can rope in one local player from any category as a direct signing prior to the Player Draft. A team can register a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 14 local players.
A category (BDT 70 Lac), B category (BDT 35 Lac), C category (BDT 25 Lac), D category (BDT 18 Lac), E category (BDT 12 Lac) and F category (BDT 05 Lac).
A category (US$ 75K), B category (US$ 50K), C category (US$ 40K), D category (US$ 30K), E category (US$ 20K).
