Drawing upon his career advising retirees, a retirement expert volunteering with The Society for Financial Awareness, will soon bring a free, wide-ranging two-part course called “Retire with Confidence” to Elmhurst College.
Greg Kurinec is teaching the classroom course at the college, 190 S. Prospect Ave. in Elmhurst. The course is designed for people 50 to 70 years old who are in or nearing retirement.
The two-session curriculum will be covered over consecutive Thursdays and Saturdays — people can choose either 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27, and Thursday, Feb. 3, or 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 29 and Saturday, Feb. 5.
Though enrollment is free, registration in advance is required. To register, visit bentron.com/retirewithconfidence-elmhurst/ or contact Rochelle Stephens at (630) 505-8375 or [email protected].
Founded in 1993 with a mission to provide financial education across America, one community at a time, The Society for Financial Awareness is a nonprofit organization composed of professionals offering informational workshops to individuals, companies, and organizations.
Among other topics, Kurinec will cover maximizing your Social Security benefits and help you gauge your financial preparedness, and planning through self-assessments that he administers. Estate planning, Independent Retirement Accounts, income planning and investment management are also part of the curriculum.
“This course is for people who want practical, accurate knowledge, not the same old Wall Street myths to retirement planning,” Kurinec said. “Retire with Confidence provides a straightforward approach to managing the risks and opportunities that come at this crucial stage of life. People want to know how much money they need to retire comfortably, and there are no cookie-cutter answers.”
Anyone who is within a decade of retiring, or has already retired, is an excellent candidate for the course. The information shared will help students learn how to pay less in taxes, manage planning risks and create the income stream desired in retirement.
A Certified Financial Planner and a Master Registered Financial Consultant, Kurinec began with Downers Grove-based Bentron Financial Group in 2004. Since then, he has helped people at or near retirement through investment advising, estate planning, risk management and watching out for their overall financial well-being.
In 2012, after his mother, Jeanne, lost her life to cancer, Greg and his two siblings founded “Jeanne’s Journey for Hope” to help other families battle the disease in its many forms. Over the next decade, the foundation raised over $150,000 to help families pay hospital and medical bills or as income replacement if the disease has resulted in a loss of employment.
