The Catamount Trail Association and Craftsbury Outdoor Center are partnering to offer two days of free cross country skiing instruction and gear rental this winter in Chittenden County.
The Community Ski Days will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Jan. 29 at Gilbrook Nature Area in Winooski and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the Intervale Center in Burlington.
The Gilbrook Nature area has 1.3 miles of trails as well as access to the adjoining Saint Michael’s College sports fields, which participants will be able to use for practice. According to the Catamount Trail Association press release, guests should park on Saint Michael’s campus and find equipment at the trail head on the edge of campus.
At the Intervale Center, skiers will have access to 3 miles of groomed trails through farm fields and some ungroomed trails through forested areas.
Guests can come any time between the start and finish of the events; no sign up is needed. Snow shoes will also be available to rent for free.
Participants are encouraged to check the Catamount Trail Association’s Facebook page for updates and cancellations due to weather.
