Kutztown University is offering a free, online course in gardening for alumni.
The course, “Gardening for Food and Fun,” will be taught by biology professor Dr. Christopher F. Sacchi and begin on Jan. 24.
The course is designed for students with all levels of gardening experience and will include overviews of topics related to creating and enjoying vegetable and ornamental gardens.
Some of the topics include: practical aspects of selecting plant types; species and varieties; and matching the garden location and the student’s culinary interests or preferences for ornamental plants. Aspects of botany, ecology, soil health and ways to tackle weeds and insect pests also will be included.
The course is being offered in response to a surge in interest in gardening during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The course is being offered in conjunction with the Kutztown University Foundation. It will be graded on a pass/fail basis, and those who complete the course will have it appear on their college transcripts. The course will not count toward the pursuit of any degree program.
Registration for the course is currently open. For more information visit kuf.org/alumni/courses or contact Erin Gautier, administrative assistant at the Kutztown University Foundation, at 610-683-4110 or [email protected].
