The Arts HUB in Lafayette is offering free classes to children who have been affected by the Marshall Fire.
The art school has created the Arts Heal Scholarship Fund following the Marshall Fire. The fund will allow children of affected families to register for 2022 art programs for free.
Before moving to its current location at 420 Courtney Way in Lafayette, the Arts HUB was located in historic downtown Louisville following its establishment in 2007. In 2016, the school moved to Lafayette.
“It seems fitting that The Arts HUB reach out to support those in need in the town where it originated,” founder Lori Jones said in a news release. “Many former students’ homes were amongst those that burned. We join our fellow community members in lending a hand to help ease the transition back to a sense of normalcy.”
The Arts HUB offers classes in art, dance, and theater. Members of the community can choose to donate to the scholarship fund, apply to the scholarship for their family or submit an application on behalf of another family. To apply or donate, visit artshub.org/arts-heal-scholarship.
In addition, the Arts HUB has also organized Art Drop-Off Days for kids ages 5-12. The drop-off days will take place every Saturday in March from 9 a.m. to noon, and will be free to families directly impacted by the fire, as well as the families of volunteers aiding in the Marshall Fire aftermath.
The Arts HUB hopes to provide parents with time on the weekend to tend to fire-related duties, while creating a safe and fun space for children to spend their Saturday morning, Executive Director Courtney Huffman said in the news release.
