SOUPER BOWL OF CARING: Annual Souper Bowl of Caring Chili Fest at the Middle Grove United Methodist Church Sun., Feb 13, 2022 from 10:15-1pm (or until sold out). This is a take out only event. Wide variety of homemade chili for sale for $6 per quart. Church is located at 429 Middle Grove Rd (corner of Middle Grove & North Creek Rd).
LAKE GEORGE WINTER CARNIVAL: The Lake George Winter Carnival takes place each weekend throughout February. For 2022, that’s February 5 & 6, 12 & 13, 19 & 20, and 26 & 27. Relish the warmth of tasty samples during the chowder, chili, BBQ, and chicken wing cook-offs. Witness the always hilarious and fun outhouse races – a crowd pleasing favorite – as well as ATV races, polar plunges, fireworks, and more! SCHOOL MUSICAL: Ballston Spa Middle School’s Launching Pad Productions is proud to present The SpongeBob Musical. Over 100 Middle School students are busy preparing for their fast approaching opening day, with 47 students performing in the cast and another 60 backstage helping as part of the production crew. The students will present five performances including February 10th, 11th and 12th at 7:00pm and February 12th & 13th at 1:00pm at the Ballston Spa High School, 220 Ballston Avenue, Ballston Spa. Seating is General Admission and tickets are $5 for students/senior citizens and $10 for adults. Tickets may be purchased at the door up to 45 minutes prior to each performance. Masks are required to be worn in the school and throughout each performance.
VALENTINE’S DATE EXPERIENCE: Fred Astaire Dance Studios (FADS) in Saratoga Springs and AZUMA Sushi Bistro in Malta are partnering for a Valentine’s Date Experience for area couples. Up to 250 guests who visit Azuma Sushi Bistro on Valentine’s Day for dine-in or take-out, will receive a voucher for a 30-minute customizable private lesson at Fred Astaire Dance Studios in Saratoga, redeemable for a date in the future. Vouchers are redeemable for any date in the future, but appointments must be made in advance, and the voucher must be surrendered upon redemption. The studio has other exciting events happening for Cupid’s holiday as well. They’re hosting a group class for couples on Valentine’s Day, February 14th at 6:00 p.m. The cost is discounted to $25 per person. HISTORICAL SOCIETY: Town of Greenfield Historical Society meeting will be held Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Community Center, 25 Wilton Rd, Greenfield Center NY. Program: Former Saratoga Springs police chief Greg Veitch has written a book – A Gangster’s Paradise. This is a history of the Gangsters of Saratoga Springs from the Prohibition era up through the Kefauver Committee hearings in the 1950s. You do not have to be a member to attend.

EATING FOR HEART HEALTH: Cornell Cooperative Extension Saratoga County is offering a series of three programs on Eating for Heart Health in February, Heart Health Month. SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS: Regular Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. City Council meetings are held in the Music Hall at City Hall at this time. Meetings are open to the public, and admission into the room will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the meeting agenda for times of Public Hearings. The Ramp Door on the Broadway entrance to the building will be open for public access at 6:30 p.m. The Council routinely reviews and approves Rules of Conduct for public meetings, which will be followed at all meetings of the City Council, including the Public Comment period, for the benefit of all citizens. RECOVERY FROM ADDICTION PRESENTATION: February 16th 2022 7 PM Michael Blanchard a philanthropist, author, award winning photographer comes to the Jonesville United Methodist Church 963 Main St., Clifton, Park NY to share his recovery through his words and spectacular photography. He will be available for interviews on the 16th and morning of the 17th and does not mind having his picture taken unlike so many in recovery. Through the sale Michael’s books Fighting for my Life and Through a Sober Lens he has donated over $40,000 to addiction services located on Martha’s Vineyard.
SHENENDEHOWA NEIGHBORS CONNECTING: Shenendehowa Neighbors Connecting presents a virtual tour of the Albany Institute of History and Arts on February 16 at 1 pm. Sarah Clowe, a staff member of the Albany Institute of History and Art, will present a virtual tour entitled, “The Hudson River School of American Landscape Paintings.” The Institute is one of the oldest museums in the country, and it holds a significant collection of works by Thomas Cole, Frederic Church, Asher Durand, and other Hudson River School artists. The subject of this style of painting, which flourished in the mid-19th century, was America’s scenic grandeur. This program is FREE to SNC members. FULL MOON HIKE: This is a guided hike around Moreau Lake after hours. We will get to experience the woods at night while viewing the full moon. STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING: The Village of Ballston Spa’s Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee will meet twice during the month of February to review and discuss the built environment of the village. The meetings will be held on the first and third Thursdays of the month, February 3 and February 17, at 7 pm at the Saratoga County Office Building at 50 West High Street in Ballston Spa. The discussions will touch on several topics, such as reviewing the range of styles and time periods of existing buildings and how they relate to living, visiting and investing in the village, what aspects contribute to the perception of Ballston Spa and how the village character can be maintained while also allowing for new structures. Zoning enforcement, downtown building heights and design standards, teardowns and compatibility of new structures with existing ones will be examined. The Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee has been formed to work in conjunction with a professional planning consultant to identify and study several topics over the course of the next year in order to create a final plan for approval by the Village board of trustees. All meetings are open to the public, who are encouraged to attend and provide input, either by in-person attendance or via Zoom. LECTURE: On Saturday, February 19th, at 2PM, the NYS Military Museum will host a free lecture titled: Valor: The Medal of Honor, led by Dr. Edward Lengel, chief historian at the National Medal of Honor Museum. Dr Lengel will discuss the history of the medal, the new museum being built in Arlington, TX, and some of the 674 NYS recipients of the Medal of Honor. Located at 61 Lake Avenue in Saratoga Springs, the event is free but seating is limited to 40 persons on a first-come, first seated basis. Masks are required.
E-SPORT GAMING PROGRAM: Galway Public Library, located at 2112 East St. in Galway, announces a new program series starting in February. E-Sport Gaming will be ongoing, every 3rd Saturday, from 11:00 to 1:00. Designed for middle school ages through adults, this program is made possible by the SALS Seed Challenge Grant. PLAY READING: The Shuster Series of play readings is once again being presented by Home Made Theater. Join in for a “round table” play reading as participants dissect and discuss some of theater’s great literature as a group. Roles are assigned so all who attend get plenty of “performance” time. Audience members (non-readers) also welcome. The first play in the series is scheduled for Saturday, January 22nd from 10:15-1:15. Participants will be reading Our Country’s Good by Timberlake Wertenbecker. Based on true events, Our Country’s Good is set in Sydney, Australia in the early days of the settlement of Australia as a penal Colony. The play is about another play, a comedy called The Recruiting Officer, being performed using convicts as the actors, and directed by a very earnest young officer. The Shuster Series play readings will be held at the Ballston Spa Public Library at 21 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. Other dates in this season are February 19th, March 19th, April 16th, and May 21st. All readings will be from 10:15am -1:15pm. Participation is free, though there is a suggested donation of $5 to cover the cost of printing. HISTORY PROGRAM: Join the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at 7PM for “An Evening with Solomon Northup” featuring living history re-enactor and photographer Clifford Oliver Mealy. Born a free man in 1808, Solomon Northup was an African American abolitionist and musician who was kidnapped and sold into slavery in 1841, while living with his family in Saratoga Springs. With the help of friends, Northup was rescued in 1853 and his story and experiences were the subject of his book, 12 Years a Slave, which was made into a movie in 2013. During the virtual program, Cliff will discuss the adventures and obstacles from Northup’s perspective. This virtual program will take place through Zoom and Facebook Live for a suggested donation of $10 or more. WINTERFEST & TAKE A FRIEND SNOWMOBILING: All are invited to beat the winter blues by getting outside and having some fun during Hudson Crossing Park’s 5th annual Winterfest and Take a Friend Snowmobiling event. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27, park visitors will have the chance to learn about ice harvesting on the Champlain Canal, watch a cold-water rescue demonstration by the Schuyler Hose, enjoy the HCP sledding hill, take part in a snow sculpture contest and much more. Families are also invited to try their hand at winter tracking and cooking over an open fire, with plenty of hot chocolate and goodies on hand to snack on from the bake sale. Additionally, adults 18 years and older will be able to learn how to safely operate a snowmobile and drive it around an established path system on the park grounds. Children are invited to accompany a parent, guardian or an experienced snowmobile club member. Area clubs will have sleds available for use, with COVID-19 safety protocols in place including a sanitation station for helmets between uses. The Winterfest and Take a Friend Snowmobiling event is free and open to the public, although donations to support Hudson Crossing Park are gratefully accepted. PLAY READING: The Shuster Series of play readings is once again being presented by Home Made Theater. Join in for a “round table” play reading as participants dissect and discuss some of theater’s great literature as a group. Roles are assigned so all who attend get plenty of “performance” time. Audience members (non-readers) also welcome. The first play in the series is scheduled for Saturday, January 22nd from 10:15-1:15. Participants will be reading Our Country’s Good by Timberlake Wertenbecker. Based on true events, Our Country’s Good is set in Sydney, Australia in the early days of the settlement of Australia as a penal Colony. The play is about another play, a comedy called The Recruiting Officer, being performed using convicts as the actors, and directed by a very earnest young officer. VIETNAM WAR COMMEMORATION CEREMONY: 50th Vietnam War Commemoration Ceremony – The Friends of the New York State Military Museum, in conjunction with the Capital District of New York Chapter of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA), will be conducting a 50th Vietnam War Commemoration ceremony on Tuesday , March 29, 2022, starting at 7 pm at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Lodge (1 Elks Lane, Saratoga Springs). The event will recognize and honor the service of Vietnam War era veterans who served in the military during the period of Nov. 1, 1955 through May 15, 1975 and have time on active duty even if only for training. All branches of the service qualify. The event is free and open to the public, but veterans who register in advance will receive a Vietnam War era lapel pin. The lapel pin is issued by the United States Depart ment of Defense as part of its 50th Anniversary Vietnam War Commemoration, a multi-year pro gram to thank and honor Vietnam veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. A Surviving Spouse pin will also be issued to the spouse of a deceased veteran who served on active duty in the United States Armed Forces at any time during the period noted above regardless of location. TRACTOR SAFETY: The Capital District 4-H would like to welcome all area youth who are 14 years and older, to participate in the 2022 Capital District 4-H/HOSTA Tractor Safety Program. This program is a great opportunity for youth who currently work on farms or around machinery, those who will be seeking employment on a farm, or anyone who would just like to learn more about farm and machinery safety. Participants will gain hands-on experience with a variety of equipment including tractors and implements, skid steers, ATVs and chainsaws. They will also visit a variety of agribusinesses, and receive HOSTA certification upon successful completion of the program. WING FEST: After canceling last year’s event due to the ongoing pandemic, the Glens Falls Collaborative returns to hosting its annual Wing Fest event on Saturday, April 30, 2022, from noon to 3 p.m. in Downtown Glens Falls. The event is a competition between restaurants for the best wings. Tasting is from noon to 3 p.m. and an awards ceremony at the bandstand in City Park at 3:30 p.m. will close out the event, with multiple categories of winners. There will also be live music in Downtown Glens Falls. Restaurants are invited to participate by applying online at www.glensfallscollaborative.com. Tasting Tickets are $1 each, and the number of tickets to taste varies by restaurant. Participating Downtown restaurants will serve from their storefronts, and restaurants from outside the city will serve from locations along Glen, Ridge, Bay and Maple Streets and in City Park. Voting will take place online at glensfallscollaborative.com. QR codes for voting will be displayed around town and votes must be cast by 3 p.m.
SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS: Regular Saratoga Springs City Council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. City Council meetings are held in the Music Hall at City Hall at this time. Meetings are open to the public, and admission into the room will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Check the meeting agenda for times of Public Hearings. The Ramp Door on the Broadway entrance to the building will be open for public access at 6:30 p.m. The Council routinely reviews and approves Rules of Conduct for public meetings, which will be followed at all meetings of the City Council, including the Public Comment period, for the benefit of all citizens. SARATOGA HORSE SYMPOSIUM: CCE Equine is excited to host our Saratoga Horse Symposium on May 14th at the 4-H Training Center in Ballston Spa. This exciting educational event is a celebration of the horse for new, aspiring, and experienced horse owners and professionals. Registration for general admission, vendors, and sponsors will be open in February for 2022. General admission for the Horse Symposium includes entry to a large used tack sale, vendors, and all clinics, and seminars. Tickets per adult are $15 for the day, youth, 18 years of age and younger, are $5 and 4-H youth members are free! Come and go as you please all day from 8:30-4:30 pm. The Horse Symposium has been dedicated to offering quality equine experiences for over 20 years. In the past, industry-leading veterinarians, trainers, and experts have joined us to offer a diverse offering that can be applicable to most equine disciplines. In between seminars and demonstrations participants can enjoy food concessions, bid in a silent auction, browse our vendor room, and enjoy a used tack-sale fundraiser for the Saratoga County 4-H program. STRONGER TOGETHER ANNUAL DINNER: The Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce will celebrate its 104th year with a Stronger Together Annual Dinner, hosted on Tuesday, May 17th from 6:00 to 9:30 p.m. at the Saratoga Springs City Center. Over the past two years, the Chamber has been a vital part in being visible and vocal for all local businesses and non profits in Saratoga County. PLAY READING: The Shuster Series of play readings is once again being presented by Home Made Theater. Join in for a “round table” play reading as participants dissect and discuss some of theater’s great literature as a group. Roles are assigned so all who attend get plenty of “performance” time. Audience members (non-readers) also welcome. The first play in the series is scheduled for Saturday, January 22nd from 10:15-1:15. Participants will be reading Our Country’s Good by Timberlake Wertenbecker. Based on true events, Our Country’s Good is set in Sydney, Australia in the early days of the settlement of Australia as a penal Colony. The play is about another play, a comedy called The Recruiting Officer, being performed using convicts as the actors, and directed by a very earnest young officer. The Shuster Series play readings will be held at the Ballston Spa Public Library at 21 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. Other dates in this season are February 19th, March 19th, April 16th, and May 21st. All readings will be from 10:15am -1:15pm. Participation is free, though there is a suggested donation of $5 to cover the cost of printing.
