Get a head start on your fitness journey this year with four new classes from Campus Recreation. If you’ve never tried a group fitness class before, now is the perfect time to try. This year’s new offerings include FREE classes that do not require purchase of an All-Class Pass.
Group fitness classes can serve as a great mental health break between classes and other commitments, giving you a chance to go screen-free and thrive in an uplifting, social atmosphere. Having an instructor pushing you to do your best, alongside classmates encouraging and inspiring you, makes a group class a uniquely beneficial experience.
In group classes, you don’t need to worry about coming up with a new routine– the instructor will take care of that. Likewise, group classes can help you grow your workout skills– the more classes you attend, the more choreography, exercises and routines you’ll learn. This can give you renewed confidence at the gym to develop your own workouts.
“Everyone should come to classes– whether you are new to fitness or have been working out for years, there is always a spot for you in our classes. Classes provide participants from all backgrounds of fitness with the opportunity to enjoy their workouts and hopefully even learn a new move or two,” said Annalisa Mazza, group fitness coordinator.
This 30-minute class is free and takes place at 12 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Campus Rec Center. Pound Express is a quick workout that involves bodyweight movements and drumsticks, making for a creative way to work your whole body while laughing and making a ton of noise. For a similar experience, try Pound Fitness, an extended 50-minute version from 12 to 12:50 p.m. on Fridays at the Recreations & Wellness Center (this version is not free to attend).
Another half-hour free class is Husker HIIT, which focuses on working out the entire body in just 30 minutes using interval training. This strength class occurs at 12 p.m. on Fridays at the Campus Rec Center.
While technically not a brand-new class, Cardio Kickboxing is returning to Campus Recreation after an absence from the schedule. This class offers two time options: from 6–6:50 a.m. on Mondays and 8– 8:50 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Campus Rec Center. Cardio Kickboxing requires an All-Class Pass to participate.
A strength and sculpting class, Cardio Sculpt is similar to the familiar Total Body Tone class, but operates at a higher intensity level. This class has two weekly sessions available: 6– 6:50 a.m. on Tuesdays and 7– 7:50 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Campus Rec Center. Cardio Sculpt requires an All Class Pass to participate.
