It’s time to start gathering your ancestors, says the Berks County Genealogy Society.
National Genealogy Day is March 12 and the Berks group says it will be celebrating all month.
Every Sunday in March there will be an open house in the library of the group’s offices in the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts at Second and Washington streets, organizers said.
The open house runs from noon to 4 p.m. and in the final hour, volunteers will give visitors a free beginner’s class on how to get started with family research and use of the library, organizers said.
The free classes are March 6, 13, 20 and 27. No RSVP required.

Bernville Library, 6721 Bernville Road, which is Route 183, is holding a 10 items for $3 book sale on March 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and March 13 from 2 to 6 p.m.
Fiction will organized A-Z by author so it’ll be easy to find specific books, organizers said.
There will also be children’s books, juvenile books, history, biography, how-to, reference, textbooks, cookbooks, audio books, movies, music CDs and more, organizers said.

Hawk Mountain Chapter 31, Society for Pa. Archaeology, presents “Rediscovering Local History” on March 7 at 7 p.m. at Hamburg Borough Hall, 61 N. Third St.
Historian Karen Calarco will be doing a narrative of the life of Regina Hartman and her captivity by Native Americans. It is a tale about a local family and young girl during the French and Indian War, organizers said.

Reading Public Library will resume its Adult Book Club at the main library with a discussion of “Atonement” by Ian McEwan on March 9 at 7 p.m.
The discussion will be held at the Reading Public Library Foundation Building, 113 S. Fourth St. and via Zoom. Visit readingpubliclibrary.org for details.

All the free discussions will be led by Nathaniel Thomas, the library’s supervisor of reference services, organizers said.

The Hawk Mountain Youth Art Month Contest starts March 1 and submissions are due by March 31.
Children and teens ages 5 to 16 are welcomed to submit artwork, and staff will select two winners from the age 5 to 9 group and two from the age 10 to 16 groups, organizers said.
Winners will have their artwork displayed in the Visitor Center Gallery April 22 to May 22 in celebration of Earth Day and spring, organizers said.
Winning artwork will also be made into a limited-edition sticker to be sold in the Mountain Bookstore, and winners will receive a gift and/or family membership, organizers said.
Participants should be sure to download and submit the necessary waiver from the Youth Art Month Contest event page. Any of the artwork may be shared on the Hawk Mountain website or social media.
Artwork must clearly depict an aspect of Hawk Mountain Sanctuary and be original artwork by the artist listed on the waiver to be considered. Accepted forms of art are paintings, drawings/sketches or digital art.

The Berks County Conservation District will hold a Beer Rain Barrel workshop at Saucony Creek Brewery near Kutztown on March 26 at 1 p.m.
Participants will learn about water conservation practices as they sip the brewery’s fare, all while assembling and painting rain barrels to take home, organizers said.
Registration is required.
Tickets are $40 and include a free beer and a rain barrel to take home. Additional participants who may be assisting with rain barrel decorating can purchase a ticket for $10, which also includes a free beer, organizers said.
Proceeds benefit educational and outreach programs of the conservation district.

Boyertown Junior Woman’s Club presents its annual Girls’ Night Out basket raffle on March 26 at Hope Community Church, 2732 N. Charlotte St., near Gilbertsville.
Proceeds will benefit the General Spaatz Museum in Boyertown and other local organizations.
The raffle opens at 5:30 p.m. and it will be an in-person event.
Outside food is permitted in the building, just no alcohol. Tickets are $25 and participants will receive a sheet of 25 raffle tickets at the door, organizers said.
