50 years ago: The Altoona Chamber of Commerce Home Show at the Jaffa Mosque opened with more than 4,000 people visiting 67 exhibitors. Lois Huber of Bishop Guilfoyle High was voted Miss Future Homemaker and Charles Ofiesh, L. Eugene Leapley and Maurice Lawruk sawed a board to open the show.
25 years ago: Altoona native and Bishop Guilfoyle graduate Sister Mary Ann Dillon was appointed president of Mount Aloysius College in Cresson. Current president Edward Pierce was retiring.
10 years ago: A Pennsylvania DUI Association safety simulator, which rented for $1,000 a day, was at Altoona Area High and then to Williamsburg Community High to teach the students. It was paid for by State Farm Insurance.
