A gallery walk-through at the University of Wyoming Art Museum will feature artist talks by students whose works are part of the 47th annual Juried UW Student Exhibition.
The UW Art Museum and the UW Student Art League will host the free event Wednesday, April 27, from 3:30-5 p.m.
The gallery walk-through is an opportunity to hear student artists discuss their artistic motivations, such as what drives the content of their work and why specific artistic media were chosen, and to answer visitors’ questions. The event not only helps students develop as professional artists, but it also bolsters their public speaking skills.
The annual Juried UW Student Exhibition is open to any student enrolled at UW or any in-state student enrolled through UW distance courses during the current academic year. This year, 67 students submitted 178 works of art for review. From those, 55 works by 42 artists were accepted into the exhibition.
Works that were not selected for the exhibition can be viewed in a virtual “Salon des Refuses” organized by the UW Student Art League. To view these works, go to https://saluwyo.wixsite.com/home/sallon-de-refuses.
Each year, a juror for the exhibition is chosen from outside Wyoming. This year’s juror was Natalia Ángeles Vieyra, Maher Curatorial Fellow of American Art at the Harvard Art Museums. She specializes in the art and material culture of the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean.
During the recent awards ceremony, college deans, members of the UW Art Museum National Advisory Board, businesses, individuals, UW Student Art League members and the juror presented 42 scholarship and purchase awards, cumulatively valued at over $11,000. To view the list of award winners, go here.
