Companies are offering perks such as free food, coffee, fitness classes, and unique events to lure reluctant workers back to the office after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Most workplaces operate a hybrid model of two or three days in the office and the rest at home, but in many cases staff are still working from home full time.
Neil McDonnell, chief executive of Isme, which represents more than 10,000 small and medium-sized businesses, said that there was a “significant emphasis to get staff back even on a blended basis” because working remotely was causing “a lot of interpersonal difficulty” in the workplace.
He added: “I think the big negotiable is the number of days in the office, and that is now getting hard-coded into new contracts
