METRO DETROIT — The Farmington Family YMCA is scheduled to host a "Make Every Day Better Annual Campaign Breakfast" to help raise money to provide children with free water safety lessons and a week of camp.
Funds raised also help sponsor "YMCA LiveStrong classes," which, according to a press release, helps cancer surivors improve their quality of life.
The event is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. April 29 at Farmington Family YMCA, which is located at 28100 Farmington Road in Farmington Hills.
Attendance is free, with attendees given the opportunity to make a gift of their choice.
According to the release, $125 provides a child with free water safety lessons; $250 provides a child with a week of camp; and $400 provides physical fitness classes and support to cancer survivors.
The releasae states that drowning is a leading cause of accidental death among children.
LiveStrong is an evidence-based program that helps adult cancer survivors reclaim their health and well-being following a cancer diagnosis, according to the release.
It is a 12-week program that is facilitated by YMCA instructors who are trained in cancer survivorship, and offers post-rehabilitation exercise and supportive cancer care.
There is no cost to participants to attend the program.
The camp offered by the YMCA is in partnership with Farmington Public Schools and "helps mitigate the learning gap during the school years during the summer," focusing on "strengthening the areas of academics, social-emotional learning, and financial literacy."
