WT Briefs: LSC Softball Tournament field set, track & field competes in Lubbock – Amarillo Globe-News

The 10-team bracket is complete for the 2022 Lone Star Conference Softball Championship, which will be played over three days starting Thursday at Irwin Ballpark on the campus of UT Tyler.
UT Tyler is the top seed and host after claiming its second straight LSC title with a 26-4 league record. Texas A&M-Kingsville is the second seed, followed by Lubbock Christian, Texas A&M-Commerce, Angelo State and Oklahoma Christian.

St. Mary’s, West Texas A&M, Cameron, and St. Edward’s round out the field.
The No. 8 Lady Buffs will play No. 9 Cameron at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

The single-elimination tournament starts Thursday with four games scheduled to be played. The action continues Friday with four more games starting at 11 a.m., while the tournament championship game is set for 2 p.m. Saturday.
West Texas A&M had a strong finish in its final tune-up before the Lone Star Conference Track & Field Championships on Saturday.
The track and field team turned in strong performances on the final day of the Corky/Croofoot Shootout in Lubbock.

Eleonora Curtabbi picked up the first victory of the day in the 5,000 as the junior crossed the line in a season-best 17:38.22.
Tiana Melton finished 12th in the 400 (1:00.30) while Cheyann Shadden placed ninth (1:11.19) in the 400 hurdles. 
Two Lady Buffs competed in the pole vault with Joey Zimmerman placing sixth with a personal-best clearance of 11-6.5 (3.52m) followed by Jayna Lueders tied for eighth at 10-4.75 (3.17m).

On the track, Butare Rugenerwa grabbed a victory for the Buffs (3:49.83) in the 1,500 to defeat Texas Tech’s Paul Sherill. De’Vonte Edmonds ran 51.72 in the 400 to finish 25th. 
Gabe Imery led WT in the pole vault with a 14-5.25 (4.40m) clearance to tie for ninth and was followed by Dawson Gilliam in 12th and Dylan Gilliam in 15th. 
Jared Cummins ran a personal-best (55.18) in the 400 hurdles to lead the Buffs in sixth with Kash Starkey following closely in seventh (55.28) and Kenyon Mosley in eighth (56.40). 
WT will now set its eyes on the 2022 LSC Outdoor Championships on May 5-7 in Kingsville at the Javelina Stadium hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville.
