Jalandhar: The PG Department of Commerce and Business Management of Doaba College conducted value-added skill development certificate course on Tally ERP 9.0 and e-Commerce for 10+2 students of various schools. Principal Dr Pardeep Bhandari said the course consisted of two modules — mainly Tally ERP9.0 and e-commerce so as to hone skills of students needed for industry and e-commerce. Dr Naresh Malhotra, head, said Prof Surjeet Kaur, Dr Nitasha Sharma and Dr Amarjit Saini discussed various modules viz basics of accounting, introduction to Tally, creation of a company, its accounts and groups, creation of ledger and summarising by preparing trial balance, profit and loss account and balance sheet. In addition, creation of stock groups, stock items, inventory management, physical verification of raw material and final goods were also taught to students. Budget preparation and accounting treatment of GST transactions using Tally were also practised by students during hands-on sessions. Thereafter, module of e-commerce covered various aspects like online payments, online application of Aadhaar, PAN card, online shopping, e-banking, etc.
Students bag top positions in exams
Students of Apeejay College of Fine Arts have brought laurels to the college by winning gold medals for bagging top positions in the exams conducted by Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The students — Parminder Singh (BVoc Sound Technology, semester 6th), Garinder Singh (BVoc – e-Commerce & Digital Marketing, semester 6th), Vibhuti Sharma (BVoc — Contemporary forms of Dance, semester 6th) and Yashika (MVoc Theatre and Television, semester 4th) — were the proud achievers. Principal Dr Neerja Dhingra congratulated them and wished them luck for their bright future. She said this achievement was the result of their consistent hard work and dedication.
Final ‘Ethics Bowl’ match organised
The third and the final ‘Ethics Bowl’ match was organised by Army Public School, Jalandhar, today. Illumined by the presence of Vijaya Khanduri, regional president, AWWA, Western Command, Rani Sharma, zonal president Vajra AWWA and Supreet Batra. The finale witnessed extraordinary performance by both teams selected in the semifinal matches. These teams were given the topics of ‘Rising Cases of Drug Abuse among Teens’ and ‘Can Electronic Databases Fully Substitute Brick and Mortar Libraries?’ The participants exhibited exceptional levels of preparation and presentation leaving no stone unturned to stake claim to the coveted Winners’ Trophy. Team APS, Jalandhar, won the ‘Best Team’ prize based on the performance of its six participants all through the competition followed by APS, Ferozepur, at the second position and APS, Amritsar. As for the final team, which will represent 11 Corps at the successive Western Command level, three participants are from APS Amritsar, two from APS Jalandhar and one from APS Ferozepur. Vijaya Khanduri interacted with all the participants and complimented them for their excellent performance with unmatched zeal and enthusiasm. Principal Dr Saksham Singh felicitated the winners who will further represent 11 Corps at the Command level competition with mementoes and Certificates of Excellence and hoped that the finalists will bring greater glory to 11 Corps. She placed great store on the values of camaraderie and team spirit panning across all Corps schools which have come to be the hallmark of the contest. In her address, she congratulated the participants and their mentors from all the six schools for their brilliant performance.
Students shine in BEd exam
In the BEd (third-year) examination conducted by Panjab University, students of DIPS College of Education, Tanda, secured more than 90 per cent marks. Giving information, Principal Jyoti Gupta said Harmanpreet Kaur and Gursharandeep Kaur secured 92.66 per cent, Kulwinder Kaur 92.33 and Satinder Kaur and Navdeep Kaur 91.66 per cent. All students have passed the exam with good marks. MD Tarwinder Singh congratulated all the students, their parents and teachers on securing good marks. He said this was the result of everyone’s hard work. He expressed hope that in future also, the students would perform better. CEO Monica Mandotra said students were the foundation of the future, so they should pay full attention to their studies and career. By securing good marks in studies, they could easily make his career.
Guru Purnima celebrated
Guru Purnima was celebrated by students of St. Soldier Group of Institutions by bowing down to their teachers. On the directions of Principal Sudhanshu Gupta, students Sahib, Aksh, Devansh, Radhya, Gurnoor, Gauravi, Shivaay, Lavneesh, Bhavesh, Jeevanjot, Pavneet, Jashanpreet, Deepjot, Krishna, Puneet, etc, dressed up as sages and disciples to perform in a short drama. The students thanked them for guiding them all the time, explaining the difference between good and bad and keeping them attached to moral values. Vice-chairperson Sangeeta Chopra said, “Guru Purnima is dedicated to Maharishi Ved Vyas, who was born on the full moon of the month of Ashadh, and is considered the first guru of all mankind and he composed the Mahabharata.
Industrial training for students
IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) has opened industrial practical training for its various stream engineering students. The university’s practical Industrial Training Centre (CIIIT-Centre for Invention, Innovation, Incubation and Training) is going to start next level practical training for engineering students from July 19. This training programme will be for four weeks, in which students of Computer Science Engineering (CSE), Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering can participate. A few seats are also available for BCA students. CIIIT is an exclusive training centre of IKGPTU, in which industry-based training is conducted from time to time for the university students. This centre is run by the university in association with the world-famous brand Tata Technologies. This centre receives hundreds of students’ positive responses for training every year. Students are trained by subject experts of Tata Technologies only. This time applications are open for students of the main campus, other campuses (Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and Mohali) and affiliated colleges because of limited seats. University registrar Dr SK Mishra said this practical training was an opportunity for engineering students. CIIIT has world class facilities. This training centre is a recognised centre in northern India. Dr Jujhar Singh, centre coordinator, shared that in the four-week industrial training programme, the students were trained to do practical work in the industrial environment by professional subject experts. During the training, the complete work on machine opening, usage, software, hardware functions, etc, will be offered to students. The machinery and equipment available at CIIIT is completely industry-based equipment and are thus bridging the gap between theoretical and practical knowledge of students.
48 students attend educational tour
Chandrayaan Vipnet Club of PG Department of Physics of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, organised a one-day educational visit under the guidance of Principal Dr Ajay Sareen. A team of 48 students accompanied by two teachers Saloni Sharma and Sushil Kumar went to Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Renewable Energy (SSS-NIRE) in Kapurthala (Punjab). Spread over a sprawling campus of about 75 acres, the institute carries out and facilitates research, design, development, testing, standardization and technology demonstrations eventually leading to commercialisation of RD&D bio fuel. Students visited four research laboratories operational on synthesis, characterisation and testing of biofuels, bioenergy and synthetic fuels in solid, liquid and gaseous forms for transportation, portable and stationary applications as well as development of hybrid/integrated energy systems based on solar energy and wind energy. They learnt about the various processes for production of bio-fuel in chemical conversion R&D Lab and Bio-chemical conversion of R&D Lab, designing, testing experimental efficiency of different models of cook stoves developed at NIRE and improving biomass cook stove. In the hybrid/integrated energy system labs, students learnt about the working of solar panels for conversion of solar energy to electricity and various control factors for improving the output of solar panels. They also learnt about the application of solar panels for heating water in solar water heaters/geysers. Students also saw the working model of windmill and learnt about how to find the threshold speed of wind required for converting wind energy to electricity. The students also interacted with post doctorate researchers as well as research scientists to learn from their experience. Some students also enquired about the various study paths to get into such research institutes. The visit was very informative and students were motivated to undertake research as a career and utilise their knowledge for betterment of society. After the educational visit, the students also visited Gurdwara Ber Sahib at Sultanpur Lodhi. Principal Prof Dr Ajay Sareen motivated the students to participate in more such visits to have practical experience and exposure with such research labs. She also congratulated the faculty of the department on successfully organising the trip.
Weeklong training for LPU faculty
Phagwara: Lovely Professional University (LPU) has commenced week-long training where trainers from Europe are training its faculty, besides delegates from five other countries. The training is being conducted under the European Union and Erasmus+ programme co-founded project. The funded project won by LPU is in the area of using sports and physical education as a vehicle for inclusion and recognition. Trainers are from Spain, Portugal, and Cyprus while other delegates attending the session are from Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India. During the opening hours of the training session, Dr Aman Mittal, LPU vice-president and head of the Division of International Affairs, apprised the delegates about the university and its various activities vis-à-vis internationalisation of higher education and unique global understanding. Topics to be covered daily include motor development, marketing in sports management, personal and social development and inclusion, psychology of sport and exercise, and sports nutrition for exercise and performance. MBD Group conducts Olympiad Exam
MBD Group organised ‘MBD Olympiad Exam 2022’ recently for the students of Classes VI to VIII. The MBD Olympiad was an online MCQ-based mathematics and science test where students from all over India participated. More than 20,000 entries from 28 states were received for MBD Olympiad. The test was conducted online on olympiad.aasoka.com where the students had to answer 30 multiple choice questions (MCQs) in 30 minutes. Out of the 30 questions, 15 were based on science subject and 15 on maths subject. The Olympiad marked the 77th founder’s day celebration of the group to commemorate the birth anniversary of founder Ashok Kumar Malhotra. Satish Bala Malhotra, chairperson, MBD Group, said, “Like every year, this year too, MBDians came together to celebrate the founder’s day with zeal and vigour. Besides, various social, cultural and educational activities were held to commemorate the day. We are very happy to see the active participation of students and hopeful that these kinds of activities will help students discover their hidden talent and potential.” Speaking on the occasion, Monica Malhotra Kandhari, MD, MBD Group, said, “Olympiad examinations help identify a student’s capability and motivate them to endeavour for better and deeper understanding of scientific facts so as to enhance their reasoning, analytical and problem solving skills. With the MBD Olympiad Exam 2022, we gave students a chance to learn, win and excel.” Sonica Malhotra Kandhari, Joint Managing Director, MBD Group, said, “We wish to come up with such initiatives in future as well. The registration process for the examination was free of cost. More than 20,000 students had registered from 28 states and more than 20,000 entries were received. IIT Madras is best educational institute in India
The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising four eminent persons as trustees.
The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind.
