The Court Improvement Program will sponsor attendance in the Fall 2022 Red Book Training Series, presented by the National Association of Counsel for Children (NACC). This virtual training series is being offered free of charge to Parent Attorneys, Guardian ad Litems, Judicial Officers, Juvenile Court Staff and other individuals working in the child welfare system across Tennessee.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer this comprehensive training to a wide variety of individuals working in Tennessee’s child welfare community at no cost,” said Stacy Lynch, Director, Tennessee Court Improvement Program. “Expanding everyone’s knowledge in these core competency areas will result in more positive outcomes for children and families across Tennessee.”
This signature seven-week Red Book training is consistently praised for providing valuable information on a broad array of pertinent topics in child welfare law and core dependency practice competency areas including:
*  investigative interviewing of children
*  counseling legal clients who are children
*  practice of child welfare casework
*  child safety
*  representing parents
*  federal due process
*  educational goals for children in foster care
*  transition of youth from foster care
“This Red Book Training Course is an amazing resource for the child and family advocates, and I am so grateful that we can support a more knowledgeable bar,” said Carrie Mason, Program Attorney, Tennessee Court Improvement Program. “This course was also essential to my preparation for the Child Welfare Law Specialist exam, which is administered through the NACC.”
The Fall NACC Redbook Training will be held via Zoom on Thursdays at 4 p.m. CDT beginning September 8 through October 27, 2022, with digital sessions available on demand for participants following each session.  Most weeks, the webinar will be one-hour long.  However, sessions two and seven will be an hour and half in order to cover the material sufficiently.  Participants will receive an electronic copy of the “Red Book”: Child Welfare Law and Practice: Representing Children, Parents and State Agencies in Abuse, Neglect and Dependency Cases, 3rd. Ed.  The Red Book serves as a day-to-day guide for child welfare advocates, offering in-depth analysis and instruction on a wide variety of topics in the field of child welfare law.    Tennessee attorneys will receive up to eight general hours of TN CLE credit.
