TANNERSVILLE — Literacy Connections of the Hudson Valley announce that an English as another language class for adult learners will be held once again at the Mountain Top Library in Tannersville. In early 2020 all in person classes and tutoring came to an abrupt stop due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Tutoring and classes have resumed in Columbia County, and this class will be the first to restart in Greene County. Classes in Tannersville are targeted to start in September and will begin once eligible students apply. The class will be taught by two seasoned Literacy Connections volunteers, Kathleen Kane and Nancy Allen.
The classes will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesdays. The classes will be ongoing, and are open to adults, 18 years and older, from any language background. Students must register in advance of attending, to complete the intake process for Literacy Connections students. As part of the intake process, students will be evaluated on their current English proficiency levels. This class is especially suited for beginners. Higher-level students will go on the waiting list for one of Literacy Connections’ volunteer tutors to work with them one-on-one.
Students must contact Heather Martin, Columbia and Greene County Coordinator for Literacy Connections at [email protected] (foreign language emails accepted) or by calling 518-828-1792 extension 104.
Literacy Connections is actively searching for volunteers throughout Greene and Columbia counties who would like to share the gift of language and independence with a learner in their community. New volunteers get to attend an orientation which is held monthly and complete their training conveniently online. Those interested in volunteering should also contact Heather Martin of Literacy Connections.
Literacy Connections’ Columbia and Greene County Office is located within the office of the Hudson Area Library and regular hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; 1-8 p.m. Wednesdays; and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Fridays. Literacy Connections North is partially funded by the Dyson Foundation, the generosity of friends of literacy and individual community contributions.
