Harper College was recently awarded a grant that provides free training in college and career readiness in the transportation and logistics, business management and health care industries.
Courses in the Paths to College and Career program are entry-level, geared toward student success, and provide participants with easy access to a free tutor for basic skills. The courses are held in person at the Learning and Career Center in Prospect Heights.
Courses include: Basic Business Math, Grammar Essentials, Introduction to Computers, Introduction to Word, Intermediate Word, Supply Chain and Logistics Basics, Distribution and Warehousing Essentials, Introduction to PowerPoint, Introduction to Outlook, Manufacturing Overview, Remote Work Basics, Effective Business Writing, Professional Skills Intensive, Microsoft Excel Certification Prep and Online Job Search.
Classes run through December 2022.
“This program gives adult learners the chance to think about their future in a new way,” said Martha Karavitis, Harper College manager of Career and Customized Training.
“It’s a great chance for individuals to explore key industries while gaining the skills employers and college instructors are looking for right now.”
The goal of Paths to College and Career is to equip adult learners with the tools to secure a job or move into more advanced college programs and a degree pathway.
Some students may also continue with Community Education programs to enhance their skills or Continuing Professional Education programs to earn industry certification.
This program is made possible through the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) Innovative Bridge and Transition grant, and is a collaboration between Harper’s Community Education, Continuing Professional Education, Adult Education, Workforce Development and the Learning and Career Center departments.
