CAIRO – 16 June 2022: A new series of free marriage prep courses to young couples is organized by the Al-Azhar Global Center for Electronic Fatwa in a bid to raise awareness on different marital-related issues.

This is a continuation to the program titled “Family and Community Awareness Program” that was announced in October 2018 by the Al-Azhar Institute, in coordination with different institutions and clubs.

There was a slight surge in divorce rates in December 2021, recording 20.7 thousand cases, compared to 19.1 thousand cases in December 2020.

On May 12, 2022, the program announced the opening of a new series of training courses for those who are about to marry of both sexes at its headquarters in the Sheikhdom of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, through its family and community awareness program.

Those who are interested to join the program can register through the Al-Azhar electronic portal or by calling the institute’s hotline: 19906.

These free courses aim to qualify and train those who are about to get married in different governorates across the country.

Among the topics addressed in the program are: raising awareness of how to choose a life partner; learning about the foundations of a happy married life for married couples, and the relationships between spouses, and family; clarifying the goal of religious and societal family formation; learning about the jurisprudence of marriage in Islam, and getting acquainted with the foundations of good education for children.
The themes of the courses take into account the religious, psychological, social and medical dimensions, as they were prepared by scholars specialized in these fields.

More than 2,000 applications were registered for the courses on the first day they were announced.

The courses began on June 12th, with the first round lasts for a week, and was attended by 50 trainees. The remaining stages being held on a weekly basis, with 100 trainees a day in the Sheikhdom of Al-Azhar.

Unlike the programs held by the Al-Azhar International Center for Fatwa in the governorates, the training program includes ten lectures, two lectures per day, in which a group of legal and psychological specialists give lectures.

At the end of the course, the trainees receive certificates of attendance approved by Al-Azhar, and the sheikhdom provides meals for the trainees for free.

It is noteworthy that the Al-Azhar International Center for Electronic Fatwa has held a similar number of combined courses to qualify those who are about to get married, targeting a large number of young men and girls in the governorates of: Cairo, Port Said, Alexandria, North Sinai, Gharbia, Dakahlia, Aswan and other governorates.

This takes place in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Council for Women, with the aim to spread awareness, immunize society and support family development and stability.
