When the vaccination rate finally reached 70 percent in December of 2021, a new danger appeared on the horizon. In other countries, the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus made the infection numbers explode. In early 2022, the same happened in Germany.

Again, Germany had to add more than 250,000 new Corona infections to its statistics within 24 hours while the Seven Day Incidence climbed to 1,439.0. The reason behind this is what could be called the BA.2 wave or the second Omicron wave. Officially, the share of the more contagious Omicron subtype is now 48 percent in Germany, but experts believe it is actually the dominant type already.
Even in Berlin, where the numbers had decreased for a while, a trend reversal was registered. Yesterday, the German capital’s Incidence was below 700, now it is 727.5. Mecklenburg-Hither Pomerania is above 2,000, for five states, Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Saarland, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, Incidences above 1,700 were reported. Only three out of 16 states still have three-digit Incidences. The Hospitalization Incidence rose to 6.7.

Germany’s Corona infection numbers rose substantially yet again. On Friday, 262,752 new cases were registered. It is the highest number ever. Last Thursday, the number was a lot lower, by 52,000 cases. Mecklenburg-Hither Pomerania is the federal state with the highest Seven Day Incidence. Today, the level there was 1,938.1, while the national Incidence rose to 1,388.5.
There is a known reason for the increasing infection numbers. It is the Omicron subtype BA.2, which is supposed to be even more contagious than the regular Omicron mutation. Two and a half weeks ago, on February 20th, 2022, the share of BA.2 cases among all Corona infections in Germany was 38 percent. By now, BA.2 most likely is the dominating subtype, experts believe. At least for now, Germany intends to drop most Corona restrictions on March 20th, but give the federal states the right to take action in Corona hotspots.

While Germany is looking at Russia’s war in Ukraine and dealing with the arrival of refugees from there, the ongoing Coronavirus wave is not receding the way it was supposed to. There are 215,854 new infections today, some 29,000 more than last Wednesday. The Seven Day Incidence continues to rise. On top of it all, the number of Corona-related deaths is still high. More than 300 COVID-19 patients died since yesterday.
Mecklenburg-Hither Pomerania now has the highest Incidence. The level is 1,767.2 today. Five more federal states are above 1,500. Brandenburg is looking bad as well, with an Incidence of 1,435. The province includes the town of Brandenburg an der Havel, which has become Germany’s Corona hotspot, with an Incidence of 2,930.3.

The total number of Corona infections in Germany since the pandemic hit in early 2020 now exceeds 16 million, which means that almost 20 percent of all inhabitants have been or currently are infected. For the sixth day in a row, Germany’s Seven Day Incidence increased. It just reached 1,293.6. The number of Corona patients in intensive care increased to 2,156, even though the ongoing Omicron wave is supposed to recede, according to experts.
There is more bad news: Germany’s Corona vaccination campaign is stalling. For weeks, the interest in immunizations has decreased. People do not even seem to want Novavax, the new vaccine which was just approved in the Federal Republic’s Permanent Vaccination Commission. Experts fear there could be more severe disease progressions and an increased hospitalization rate during the next Corona wave because too many people are still unvaccinated.

Germany’s Corona infection numbers are on the rise again right now. Since yesterday, 78,428 new cases were registered, 16,000 more than last Monday. The Seven Day Incidence rose vom 1,231.1 on Sunday to 1,259.2 today. At this stage, Mecklenburg-Hither Pomerania is Germany’s Corona hotspot. The state’s Incidence level is 1,764.7.
The discussion about the approach Germany should take in spring in continuing. For the FDP, which is part of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’ government coalition, Justice Minister Marco Buschmann told the Funke Mediengruppe, a publisher of several newspapers, the people’s basic rights could not be restricted preemptively. In an interview with the same publishing house, Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, a member of Scholz’ SPD, insisted the federal states needed to have the possibility to take anti-Corona measures again, including contact restrictions, in case of emergency.

In Germany, experts expected the Omicron wave to recede. But the increasing Seven Day Incidence shows there is the opposite kind of tendency, at least right now. Also there might be an increasing number of unknown Corona cases. In most regions, the local health authorities have reached their capacities. Another reason is the fact that many infections are not being confirmed by PCR tests anymore which means they do not become part of the statistics.
Health Minister Karl Lauterbach told the Funke Mediengruppe, a publisher of several newspapers, a “summer wave” had to be expected. In summer, the number of contacts people had would increase, he said. Along with a decreasing vaccination protection, this aspect could lead to rising infection numbers.

According to the Health Ministry in Berlin, the Omicron wave has surpassed its peak in most of Germany’s federal states, but not in all. In Mecklenburg-Hither Pomerania, Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia, the Seven Day Incidence is still increasing. Minister Karl Lauterbach said Germany still needed to be careful. On March 20th, most Corona rules are supposed to be lifted.
Even though its Incidence is about twice that of Germany, neighboring Austria is dropping its Corona restrictions. From today, the curfews for clubs are a thing of the past, and the number of people who take part in events is not limited anymore. But Vienna, the capital, is keeping some restrictions, for now. Here, persons who want to enter restaurants, have to be vaccinated. Those who recently recovered from COVID-19 have access too.

Even though experts have said the Omicron wave had reached its peak and the number of new infections would decrease, they are still above 200,000 on most days of the week. Germany’s Seven Day Incidence rose a little, for the second day in a row. Berlin has had a three-digit Incidence again for three days now, after registering four-digit levels for weeks.
Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Hither Pomerania are Germany’s Corona hotspots right now, with Incidence levels above 1,600, followed by Bavaria with 1580.9. In the meantime, the Corona vaccination campaign is stalling. In the past weeks, between 16,000 and 157,000 persons per day got their shots. Not so long ago, up to 1.5 million people were immunized per day.

Germany empties its list of ‘High Risk Regions’. Starting today, entering Germany is easier. Because the ongoing Omicron wave causes far less severe progressions of COVID-19, the Robert Koch Institute decided to remove the remaining 62 countries from the list. From now on, countries with new, more dangerous Corona variants will be listed, but there are none at this stage.
In numerous federal states, new Corona rules apply from tomorrow. In Berlin, unvaccinated persons will have access to restaurants, hotels, hairdressers and similar businesses again as long as they have new and negative Corona test certificates. The city’s clubs and discotheques are reopening. In this case, people need to be vaccinated and tested. Those who recently recovered from COVID-19 may enter as well, with tests.

Germany will drop is list of ‘High Risk Regions’ on Thursday. At this stage, 62 countries are still listed in this category. The Robert Koch Institute said the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus had caused less COVID-19 cases with serious disease progressions. For this reason, only areas with new virus variants would be declared from now on. At this moment, the list of ‘Virus Variant Areas’ is empty.
The move will make travel easier. Until Thursday, persons who enter Germany from a ‘High Risk Area’, or who have been to one up to 10 days prior to their trip, need to register in advance and go into a 10-day quarantine unless they provide a vaccination certificate, proof of recovery or a new and negative Corona test beforehand. From tomorrow, this will not be required for any travelers, as long as there is no new Corona variant anywhere.

Berlin and other federal states in Germany are preparing to ease more Corona regulations on March 4th. On Tuesday, the Berlin Senate was scheduled to discuss the way ahead. Later this week, unvaccinated persons will probably have access to restaurants, cafés, pubs and hotels again, as long as they have fresh Corona tests with negative results.
Clubs and discotheques are supposed to reopen. Here, the ‘2G Plus’ rule will apply, meaning only vaccinated persons may enter, and individuals who recently recovered from COVID-19, as long as they have negative Corona tests as well. But masks will probably not be needed. The number of people who may enter stadiums and big indoor venues is supposed to be increased.

Since yesterday, 62,349 new Corona infection were reported. Last Monday, there were some 11,000 more new cases. Germany’s Seven Day Incidence keeps on falling, but does so very slowly. In Saxony-Anhalt, Germany’s Corona hotspot, the Incidence rose to 1,841.5 since Sunday. With 1,696.0, Bavaria has the second-highest level.
In the city state of Berlin, the new vaccine Novavax will be used starting today. Exactly 63,000 doses are available right now. There seems to be a lot of interest. All vaccination appointments at the vaccination center located at former Tegel Airport have been reserved. Berliners can also get immunized with Novavax at the drive-in vaccination center at Ikea in the Lichtenberg borough.

By now, Saxony-Anhalt is Germany’s Corona hotspot. Its Incidence reaches 1,803.5. Bavaria’s level drops down to 1,695.3.
Five out of sixteen federal states now have three-digit Incidences again. Hamburg, which looked very bad when the ongoing Omicron wave commenced, now has a lower Incidence than all other states. It is 598.7. Just a few months ago, this would have been a catastrophic number. Now, it looks good.

The list has implications for travelers who intend to enter Germany. They need to follow rules prior to their trip and upon entry. At this stage, the other list, namely that of ‘Virus Variant Areas’, is empty.
The Corona infection numbers are continuing to drop slowly. Within the past 24 hours, 175,833 new Corona cases were registered in Germany, some 13,000 less than last Saturday. The Seven day Incidence decreased a little.

Experts fear the Omicron subtype BA.2. Some believe it has the potential to increase the infection numbers again. By the end of this month, which is only three days away, BA.2 could have a share of 50 percent of all Corona infections in Germany. This subtype seems to be far more contagious than type BA.1.
At this point, the infection numbers in Germany are decreasing slowly. Today’s number of new infections is 210,743, which is about 9,500 lower than last Friday’s number. Germany’s Seven Day Incidence decreased a tiny bit. In Berlin, the Incidence rose.

Back then, the Seven Day Incidence was 1,385.1. Since, it dropped down to 1,265.0. More than 200 Corona-related deaths are being registered every weekday.
In Bavaria, the Incidence does not seem to decrease with those in most other federal states. Today, it stands at 1,804.1. Bavaria is the nation’s Corona hotspot. Saxony-Anhalt, Baden-Württemberg and Brandenburg still register very high Incidences too. In all three cases, the level is about 1,500 today.

The federal government is working on making international travel easier. Generally, the regulations are supposed to be eased. For now, families with children will benefit. Starting in early March, children from 0 to 11 years of age will be allowed to “test free”, meaning they will not have to go into quarantine anymore when they return from ‘High Risk Areas’ if they get tested for Corona and the result is negative.
Germany’s list of ‘High Risk Areas’ has shrunk substantially in the past few weeks. Recently, it included 153 countries. Now, it contains 97 countries and the ‘Palestinian Territories’.

The German Hospital Federation says the number of Corona patients who arrive at the country’s hospitals was still increasing. Its deputy chairman Andreas Wagner tells the ‘Rheinische Post’ daily, the momentum was slowing down, but the peak had not been reached. This applies to regular hospital wards. At the ICUs, the number of Corona patients is stable.
Still, some federal states are busy easing Corona rules. Brandenburg, the state with the second-highest Seven Day Incidence in the country, intends to get rid of its contact restrictions for vaccinated persons as soon as tomorrow. Neighboring Berlin wants to wait a little longer.

For the first time since February 12th, Germany’s Seven Day Incidence increases a little. But the number of new infections within the past 24 hours is slightly lower than it was last Monday. Berlin’s Incidence had risen for two days after it had dropped below 1,000 for the first time in weeks. Today, it decreased a little. Experts believe the Omicron wave has surpassed its peak by now.
In the meantime, an argument about mandatory Corona vaccinations erupted between the SPD and the FDP, two parties that are part of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’ government coalition. In an interview with ‘Funke Mediengruppe’ Dirk Wiese, an MP who is part of the SPD, criticized Justice Minister Marco Buschmann of the FDP for expressing doubts in regard to compulsory immunizations. Increasing the vaccination rate was necessary in order to have “an opening perspective” in the next fall and winter as well. In the ‘Spiegel’ magazine, Minister Buschmann had said mandatory vaccinations could only be justified when there was an actual danger of an overburdening of Germany’s health system.

Germany’s Seven Day Incidence decreases a tiny bit again. Today’s number of new Corona infections is just above 118,000, meaning there are 7,000 more new cases than there were last Sunday. In Berlin, the opposite trend was registered. Here, the Incidence is on the rise again. Two days ago, it was a three-digit number. Today, it stands at 1,111.2. Recently, Germany announced a lifting of most Corona rules by March 20th. Whether the timing was right remains to be seen.
In Berlin, Family Minister Anne Spiegel tells the ‘Bild am Sonntag’ weekly, mandatory Corona vaccinations were still necessary, in order to increase the vaccination rate. All other ways to reach this goal had been exhausted. The Minister said dangerous Corona mutations could lead to a difficult fall and winter if the immunization rate did not improve.

Berlin’s Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey is infected with Corona. She had received her test result while she had been on the way to Munich, where she had wanted to take part in the Munich Security Conference, a statement read. Her motorcade turned around immediately. Mrs. Giffey said she did not have any symptoms and announced her appointments would be converted to online-meetings while she was going to be “in isolation”.
Germany removes 22 countries from its list of ‘High Risk Areas’, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Ireland, Spain, Algeria, India, Qatar, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates. The changes take effect on Sunday. A total of 97 countries are still considered ‘High Risk Areas’ from the perspective of Germany.

Germany’s Corona vaccination arte reaches 75 percent, but the vaccination campaign has slowed down far more than anticipated. During the first three days of this week, between 114,000 and 187,000 persons were immunized. A few months ago, there were times when 1.5 million shots were counted per day.
The Seven Day Incidence decreases slightly, but the number of new Corona infections per day still is extremely high. The question is whether the easing of Corona restrictions which the federal government and Germany’s federal states are going for are actually justified in this situation. Experts are expecting the infection numbers to decrease. In the meantime, eased Corona rules now apply in Berlin.

Looking at the latest Corona infection numbers can cause doubts about the decision taken by Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the First Ministers to lift most Corona restrictions in the next five weeks. Just hours after they decided to implement a three-step plan which will give people more freedom, more than 235,000 new Corona infections were registered. The Seven Day Incidence, on the other hand, keeps on dropping, but the number of Corona-related deaths does not.
Scholz insists Germany needs to continue to be careful. “The next Corona variant could come around the corner at any moment and pose new challenges. We have to be in the position to react in this case”, he says. In spite of the upcoming spring and the better times that could be ahead, the fact that the next fall and winter would be coming too should not be forgotten, he stresses.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the Governors from all federal states within Germany were going to discuss a draft resolution later today, according to which all “pervasive protection measures” will be lifted by the beginning of spring.
The city state of Berlin insisted on taking decisions even before the ‘Corona conference’ with Scholz. Its Senate decided to get rid of its ‘2G rules’ at restaurants, museums, memorials, the two Berlin zoos and the Botanical Garden. More tourists will have access to sightseeing tours on buses and boats because the ‘2G rule’ there will be replaced by the ‘3G rule’, meaning unvaccinated persons may go as long as they tested negative for Corona.

According to a draft proposal which is being discussed by the federal government and Germany’s sixteen states, most Corona restrictions could be lifted until March 20th, 2022. Several German-language media quoted from the document. On Wednesday, once Chancellor Olaf Scholz has returned from Moscow, he is scheduled to discuss the approach with the Governors.
In three steps, the measures that were implemented to slow down the third and fourth Corona waves are supposed to be retracted, if the number of new infections starts falling as expected. By the first day of spring, all “pervasive protection measures” might be thrown overboard.

For the second time this year, Germany’s Seven Day Incidence decreases a little. The number of new Corona infections is lower than it was last Monday, by about 19,000. With an Incidence of 1,811.8, Brandenburg is Germany’s Corona hotspot right now. Only two out of sixteen federal states, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia, have three-digit Incidences. All others are above 1,000.
Germany’s Expert Council on Corona says the infection numbers would likely stall and then fall in the coming weeks. “Opening strategies” needed to be planned and communicated in a comprehensive way. Anti-Corona measures needed to be cut back once the number of Corona patients in intensive care decreased. The Council says opening up too soon could increase the disease burden.

For the first time since December, Germany’s Seven Day Incidence, which shows how many persons got infected with Corona per 100,000 inhabitants in the past week, decreased a little. The Robert Koch Institute registered 125,160 new Corona cases in Germany today, 8,000 less than last Sunday. The question whether this already is a trend cannot be answered yet. Experts have said the ongoing Omicron wave would reach its peak in mid-February, meaning now.
The discussion about an easing of Corona restrictions continues all over Germany, among Berlin politicians and even within Chancellor Olaf Scholz’ government coalition. Finance Minister Christian Lindner of the FDP believes it is time for opening steps. He told the ‘Bild am Sonntag’ publication, there needed to be “a noticeable difference in our everyday lives” after the next Corona conference on Wednesday. Scholz and the Governors from the federal states will discuss the Corona situation and its implications then.

MPs from the three government parties SPD, ‘Bündnis 90/Die Grünen’ and FDP, have presented a draft law for mandatory Corona vaccinations. If if passes the Bundestag, everyone from 18 years of age needs to get immunized by October 1st, 2022. Pregnant women and persons who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons will be exempt.

In the past 24 hours, more than 240,000 persons got infected and 226 Corona patients died. The Seven Day Incidence increases a tiny bit, but hits a new all-time high. According to projections by the Robert Koch Institute, the peak of the Omicron wave should be reached soon.
The total number of Corona patients in German hospitals is increasing. On Thursday, 2,396 of them were in intensive care, two less than on Wednesday, while the number of those in regular wards was 15,542. Their number grew by 21.5 percent within one week.

Most of Germany’s federal states have eased their Corona rules, or are in the process of doing so. In Brandenburg, Bremen, Hesse and Mecklenburg-Hither Pomerania dropped their ‘2G’ regulations for non-essential shops. This means unvaccinated persons have access now as long as they wear FFP2 standard masks. Most states are trying to give people more “freedom” even though the Omicron wave is still in full swing.
Health Minister Karl Lauterbach has said the moment for lifting Corona restrictions had not come. For his cautious policy, he is being slammed by the opposition. For the conservative opposition party CDU, its chairman in Hamburg, Christoph Ploss (German spelling: Ploß), told the ‘Bild’ daily, Lauterbach was turning into the “Minister of fear”.

An argument about mandatory vaccinations for nurses, doctors and caretakers is escalating. By now, it has turned into a dispute between the conservative ‘union parties’ CDU and CSU on the one, and the better part of the government on the other hand. Bavaria’s First Minister Markus Söder intends to refrain from implementing the new law. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach slams him. He states the Corona situation was not under control yet. It was wrong to jeopardize a successful strategy. Observers were asking themselves whether the argument actually is about Corona or about attempts to swipe the federal government.
Things are more complicated though. One government party, the center-right FDP, wants the Corona rules to be eased. Several federal states, including some governed by Chancellor Olaf Scholz’ center-left Social Democrats, are in the process of lifting some restrictions, while the ongoing Corona wave has not even reached its peak.

Berlin and Brandenburg have announced they would get rid of what the Germans call ‘2G rules’ at non-essential shops. They prevent unvaccinated persons to enter retail businesses except for supermarkets, pharmacies and drug stores. Instead, the two federal states want to rely on FFP2 standard masks everyone has to wear. According to Berlin’s Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey, the step will help businesses and their employees. At this stage, they are forced to check everybody’s vaccination certificates.
Bavaria’s Governor Markus Söder announced he wanted to suspend the mandatory vaccination law for caretakers. He fears nursing homes might not have enough caretakers left after March 15th, when immunizations are required for persons of this profession. Germany’s Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said the Bavarian state government needed to take the law seriously. This was about the protection of patients and nursing home residents.

An argument about Professor Lothar Wieler, the President of the Robert Koch Institute, may have been settled. Bijan Djir-Sarai, an MP for the FDP, one of the three parties that are part of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’ government coalition, had said Wieler could not rely on the FDP’s trust anymore because he had shortened the duration of the status of persons who recovered from COVID-19 from six to three months without notifying anyone in advance. But Olaf Scholz and Health Minister Karl Lauterbach stated Wieler had done a great job in the past two years, and they still trusted him.
Germany’s Seven Day Incidence increases slightly. Bavaria is the federal state with the highest Incidence. It reaches 1,786.0. On the list of counties and cities, Fürstenfeldbruck is at the very top, with a level of 4083,8.

Also, we would risk new, more dangerous infections and a prolongation of the wave.”
The infection numbers do not seem to have reached their peak yet. The Seven Day Incidence reaches another all-time high, while the number of new Corona infections within 24 hours is higher than it was last Sunday. Bavaria becomes Germany’s Corona hotspot yet again, with an Incidence level of 1,756.0.

Again, the number of new Corona infections in Germany is above 200,000. The country’s Seven Day Incidence reaches a new all-time high. Experts are hoping for a trend reversal in mid-February. The Bavarian town of Fürstenfeldbruck is the new German Corona hotspot, with an Incidence of 3,720.4. On the list of federal states, Berlin still is the nation’s hotspot.
In Berlin, changes to the Corona rules apply from today. For persons who were vaccinated recently, or who recovered from COVID-19 in the past three months, visiting restaurants is easier now, since they do not need Corona tests anymore. For the same group of people, going to hairdressers is less complicated as well. But most restrictions remain in place due to the extremely high number of new infections.

Hardly a day goes by without new record Corona infection numbers. In the past 24 hours, 236,120 persons caught the virus in Germany. The Incidence rose to 1,283.2, which is another all-time high. Still, Germany’s numbers are a lot lower than the ones in Denmark and other European countries. For this reason, the discussion about easing restrictions is continuing.

We are making sure the lives and health of as many people as possible are protected.”

At this stage, only vaccinated and recovered persons may enter, except in some states, where courts have sacked this rule. While Buschmann wants to “retract protective measures” in March, Baden-Württemberg’s First Minister Winfried Kretschmann says it should not happen before Easter.

According to experts, a new Omicron ‘subtype’ could prolong the ongoing Corona wave. A Danish study came to the conclusion that BA.2 is more than twice as contagious than the Omicron variant that is dominating the world right now. The Green health expert Janosch Dahmen told the newspapers published by ‘Funke Mediengruppe’, an easing of the Corona rules in the next four weeks was unlikely, also because of BA.2.
In Germany, more than a million persons were infected with Corona in the past week. This is one tenth of all Corona infections since the pandemic commenced two years ago. Germany’s Seven Day Incidence surpassed the 1,200 mark, for the first time ever.

In Germany, ten out of sixteen federal states have four-digit Seven Day Incidences. Three city states, namely Berlin (1,821.0), Hamburg (1,780.3) and Bremen (1,557.9), still are the nation’s Corona hotspots. The number of Corona patients in intensive care increases slightly. As many as 78,318 new Corona infections are reported, some 15,000 more than last Sunday.
Bavaria’s First Minister Markus Söder calls for an easing of Corona restrictions. In an interview with the ‘Tagesthemen’ broadcast on ARD television he concedes more infected patients are being treated at hospitals, but says if Germany’s health system was not overburdened, freedoms needed to be returned to the citizens. According to Söder, more people could be allowed to visit sports and cultural events. But, for now, the right approach was to wait until the next Corona conference with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the First Ministers takes place in two weeks from now.

Every day, Germany registers record Seven Day Incidences. Today is no exception. The national Incidence level is now 1,156.8. More than 118,000 new Corona infections were reported since yesterday. Because there is no increase of cases with severe disease progressions so far, some Berlin politicians are calling for an easing of the Corona restrictions and regulations.
In Thuringia, some Corona deniers and anti-vaxxers staged protests yet again. In Erfurt, participants refrained from adhering to orders given to them by the police. Officers used pepper spray against some of them. Hardly any protesters wore masks or kept their distance.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) registers the third-highest number of new Corona infections ever, and the highest national Seven Day Incidence. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach says Germany was still below the RKI’s projections. The problem was that there were too many unvaccinated persons above 60 years of age. Again, he asks people to get their booster shots, because those would decrease the risk of dying of COVID-19 substantially.
In the meantime, the RKI changes its list of High Risk Areas in the world. It adds eleven countries and removes thirteen. The total number of countries on the list is 153. (See full list here.)

In regard to new Corona infection numbers, Germany’s Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has to rely on estimates more and more. This has to do with the extremely high number of new cases and with the lack of PCR tests. Because the COVID-19 disease progression is mostly milder in the Omicron wave, many patients might not even contact their doctors. That is why the RKI uses the reported data it receives, but adds “estimated values”, according to its latest weekly report.
The numbers the RKI releases are still alarming. Today’s number of new Coronavirus infections is the second-highest one of all time. The highest one was released yesterday. Eleven federal states in Germany now have 4-digit Seven Day Incidences. They are Berlin (1,829.4), Hamburg (1,673.4), Bremen (1,588.7), Bavaria, Brandenburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Hither Pomerania, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saarland and Schleswig-Holstein.

Germany just registered alarming record numbers again. More than 200,000 persons got infected with the Coronavirus within 24 hours. The Seven Day Incidence surpassed the 1,000 mark. Eight out of sixteen federal states have four-digit Incidences. They are Berlin (1,863), Hamburg (1,616.2), Bremen (1,491.0), Brandenburg (1,291.3), Hesse (1,202.1), Bavaria (1,159.0), Saarland (1,032.6) and Schleswig-Holstein (1,009.9).
At the Bundestag, mandatory vaccinations were discussed. Some MPs support this kind of step for all adults, others plead for compulsory immunizations for people from 50 years of age. In most democratic parties, some MPs generally do not want to force people to get vaccinated against Corona. The extremist party AfD rejects all anti-Corona measures, including mandatory vaccinations. A few steps away from the Reichstag building, which houses the Bundestag, anti-vaxxers staged protests. The government quarter was cordoned off.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reports several record numbers: 160,000 new Corona are registered within 24 hours, Germany’s Incidence reaches 940.6 and Berlin, which is the nation’s hotspot again, reaches 1,95.5. Six Berlin districts have the highest Incidences in Germany. ‘Mitte’ stands at 3,109.6. It is the only spot on the RKI’s list of cities, counties and Berlin districts with an Incidence higher than 3,000. The only five spots with Incidences between 2,000 and 3,000 are the capital’s districts Pankow, Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Neukölln and Spandau.
In Berlin, the Bundestag was going to start discussing mandatory Corona vaccinations today. Two Social-Democratic (SPD) MPs are working on a draft law. They are hoping for support from within the other two government parties, the Free Democrats (FDP) and the Greens. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach is scheduled to hold a speech, but he insists he is doing it as an MP rather than as a Minister.

Since yesterday, 126,955 new Coronavirus infections had to be added to Germany’s statistics. The country’s Seven Day Incidence reached 894.3. It has never been higher than today. Now, there are five federal states with four-digit Incidences. Berlin (1,593.5) overtook Hamburg (1,547.4), and therefore just became the nation’s Corona hotspot yet again. Bremen (1,496.3), Brandenburg (1,194.8) and Hesse (1,025.4), which just hit its first four-digit level ever, look bad too.
On the Robert Koch Institute’s list of counties, cities and Berlin districts, Mitte, a borough that includes the capital’s eastern city center, has an Incidence level of 3,166.5 (no typo), which is unprecedented. For the third day in a row, the number of Corona patients in Germany’s intensive care units rises again, to 2,438. The number of Corona-related deaths from the past 24 hours is 214.
After yesterday’s Corona conference with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the First Ministers, Markus Söder, the head of government in Bavaria, accuses the federal government of being responsible for the lack of PCR tests in an interview on ARD television. The prioritization of those tests, which are now supposed to be reserved for high-risk patients, doctors, nurses and other caretakers, while everyone else needs to rely on antigen tests, was approved at the online meeting. Its participants also decided to keep the contact restrictions and other Corona regulations in place, because of the high infection numbers.

Germany reaches the highest Seven Day Incidence level it has ever registered. At the same time, the number of Corona patients in intensive care increased again, for the first time in weeks. The overall Corona situation is on the agenda of today’s Corona conference. Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and the Governors from the country’s sixteen federal states will probably neither change the Corona restrictions, nor most regulations.
According to a draft proposal German-language media are quoting from, the participants will take a decision in regard to PCR tests though. The number of available tests exceeds the demand. That is why the remaining ones are supposed to be used for vulnerable population groups, nurses, other caretakers and doctors. Everyone else will have to use antigen tests.

On the list of counties, cities and Berlin districts, the capital’s Mitte borough has the highest Incidence. It stands at 2,845.8.
The government’s Corona Expert Council wants the government to prepare for a worsening of the situation, just in case. Its 19 members believe stricter measures need to be in the drawer so that they can be put in place at a moment’s notice. The Council also wants the vaccination campaign to be intensified. That is exactly what Health Minister Karl Lauterbach intends to do. In the ‘Bild am Sonntag’ publication, he announced a new, “more creative” advertising campaign which is supposed to commence on Tuesday.
On Monday, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the Governors of the sixteen federal states were going to discuss the Corona situation and measures designed to slow it down yet again.

Germany adds nineteen countries to its list of ‘High Risk Areas’. There are 195 countries in the world, and 164 of them are on the list. In Europe, the Vatican and Ukraine are the only exceptions at this moment. Persons who enter Germany after stays in any ‘High Risk Area’ need to follow strict rules. Those include 10-day quarantines. But those can be avoided in most cases.
The infection numbers are still going through the roof. Germany just reached its highest Seven Day Incidence ever. More than 130,000 persons got infected with Corona since yesterday. Berlin is Germany’s Corona hotspot. Its Incidence is above 1,400. The capital’s Mitte district is in a serious situation. Here, the Incidence level has reached 2,814.3.

While the number of Corona patients in intensive care is still decreasing, it is on the rise in regular wards, according to the German Hospital Federation (DKG). Its chairman Gerald Gass (German spelling: Gaß) tells the ‘Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland’, the latest numbers from regions affected most by the Omicron wave showed that the strain at Corona wards was increasing substantially.

Omicron is hitting Germany badly. Every day, new record infection numbers are being released. In the past 24 hours, more than 133,000 people were infected with Corona. The Seven Day Incidence jumps to 638.8. Berlin’s Incidence now stands at 1,154.2. The worst Corona hotspot in the entire country is the capital’s Mitte district, which reached an unbelievable Incidence level of 2,286.0. This means one in 50 residents got infected in the past seven days.
According to Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, there might be hundreds of thousands of new Corona infection per day in the second half of February. On ZDF television he said this kind of scenario was probable. Lauterbach stated he worried about the many unvaccinated elderly people in Germany.

Germany reaches yet another record Seven Day Incidence. Today’s level is 553.2. In spite of the fact that the number of new Coronavirus infections usually is low on Tuesdays, because of the weekend effect, it is very high today. There are more than 74,000 new cases. Bremen and Berlin remain Germany’s Corona hotspots, with Incidences of 1,297.4 and 962.8, respectively.
The rules for persons who recovered from COVID-19 just changed. Until now, their status ended after six months. This period was just decreased to three months. For recovered persons, this change has implications, for instance when they want to enter restaurants or other places with what the Germans call ‘2G Plus’ rules. They will need to be vaccinated and show negative Corona tests once those three months are over. With booster vaccinations, they will not need tests.

The outcome were going to be announced in the late evening. Recently, Lauterbach has asked the Germans to test themselves for Corona several times a week because of the rapidly spreading Omicron wave. Lauterbach supports compulsory Corona vaccinations.
On Monday in the early morning, the Robert Koch Institute reported 34,145 new Corona infections, some 9,000 more than last Monday. Germany’s Seven Day Incidence reaches yet another all-time high. It stands at 528.2 today. Because of the ongoing Corona wave, experts believe the infection numbers will keep on rising in the coming weeks.

Germany places 33 more countries and some regions in the world on its list of ‘High Risk Areas’. They include Albania, most of Austria, Bulgaria, Latvia and Serbia. Entering Germany is more complicated for persons who were in one of those countries or regions. At the same time, the situation is worsening in Germany itself. For the first time ever, the country’s Seven Day Incidence surpassed the 500 mark. The only good news is the fact that the number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care is decreasing, at last for now.
The discussion about compulsory Corona vaccinations continues. Health Minister Karl Lauterbach tells the ‘Bild am Sonntag’ publication, those immunizations needed to include three shots, including booster vaccinations. They were needed to protect people against all known Corona variants, at least in regard to severe disease progression and Corona-related deaths. He also predicts Omicron would not be the last letter in the “alphabet of Corona variants”.

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach says Germany’s Corona strategy was working. By implementing contact restrictions and other measures, the country had managed to slow down the Omicron wave to some extent. The doubling time (of the infection numbers) had been stretched from four and a half to six days, and the additional time was used to administer as many booster vaccinations as possible. According to the Minister, one of Germany’s problems is the fact that there are too many unvaccinated persons. At this stage, the number of Corona-related deaths was not increasing and that of Corona stations in intensive care was even decreasing. Lauterbach believes this will change soon.
Professor Christian Drosten, a leading virologist at Berlin’s Charité hospital, states it was true that Omicron was a “milder” variant than Delta. But, because of the high number of people it infected, this effect would be neutralized. Germany’s main problem was the fact that 3 million people above 60 years of age were not vaccinated against Corona, and that 9 million persons in this age group were not ‘boostered’. Professor Lothar Wieler of the Robert Koch Institute confirms that 70 percent of all new Corona infections in Germany are Omicron cases.

Omicron is to blame for the skyrocketing number of cases. It is now the dominating Corona mutation in Germany.
The Bundestag passed the new quarantine rules on Thursday night. Today, it is the Bundesrat’s turn. According to the new regulations, persons with booster vaccinations who were in contact with infected individuals do not need to go into quarantine at all. Everyone else needs to stay for ten days unless they test negative after a minimum of seven days. In the city state of Berlin, the new rule applies from today. In this case, the Senate will confirm it retroactively.

Seven hundred and sixteen days into the Corona crisis, Germany’s Robert Koch Institute reports the highest number of new infections of all time. Within 24 hours, more than 81,000 cases needed to be added to the statistics. Two city states are the country’s Corona hotspots. Bremen’s Seven Day Incidence hits 1,349.2, while Berlin reaches 918.6. Within Berlin, the worst hotspot is Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. Its Incidence is 1,398.2.
At the Bundestag, Chancellor Olaf Scholz reiterates he wants compulsory Corona vaccinations for all adults. But neither him nor Health Minister Karl Lauterbach introduce bills. In regard to this important question, they would rather let the caucuses and the entire parliament come up with a solution.

For the first time ever, Germany registers more than 80,000 new Coronavirus infections in 24 hours. The last sad record was reached on November 26th, 2021, when there were 76,414 new cases. Experts believe the numbers will increase even more because of the ongoing Omicron wave. It hit other European countries before it came to Germany. In the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and other countries, the infection numbers literally exploded.
In two of Berlin’s twelve districts, Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and Neukölln, the Seven Day Incidence surpasses the 1,100 mark. Mitte, Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Reinickendorf and Pankow register extremely high numbers too. Because of the serious situation, Berlin cancels one of its biggest cultural events, the Carnival of Cultures, for the third time in a row.

In Germany, the tiny federal state of Bremen and Berlin are the worst Corona hotspots. Berlin’s Seven Day Incidence is now 737.2. One district, Neukölln, is above 1,000. Others are approaching the 1,000 mark. Berlin has never seen these kinds of numbers. The city state’s new Health Senator Ulrike Grote tells the ‘Morgenpost’ daily, the infection numbers would increase further.
Senator Grote also says, Berlin would not be able to trace back all Corona infections to their sources because of the increasing numbers. At the city’s official Corona test centers, long waiting lines were seen. In some cases, people who had waited in the cold for hours were sent back home without tests.
In the afternoon, the Berlin Senate decides to tighten the Corona rules for the city. Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey calls the situation “very, very serious”.

Germany’s Seven Day Incidence rises to 375.7. Berlin reaches 694.1. Neukölln, a large district, becomes the city’s Corona hotspot yet again, with an Incidence of 1,041.4. Only the north-western city of Bremen is at a higher level. According to the Robert Koch Institute, its Incidence is 1,080.9 today, which means that 1,081 persons per 100,000 inhabitants, or about 1 in 100 people, have been infected in the past 24 hours.
Health Minister Karl Lauterbach announces more anti-Corona measures. In an interview with the ARD TV and radio network he says the latest restrictions were not enough to defeat the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus. At some point, more would have to be added. In the ‘Bericht aus Berlin’ broadcast, Lauterbach conceded it was unclear how reliable Corona tests were in regard to Omicron, especially right after persons were infected. But not testing people at all would be “far too dangerous”.

Germany’s new government will likely not reach its goal to have compulsory Corona vaccinations in place by early March, according to the ‘Tagesspiegel’ daily. The paper reports, complicated legal questions and the dates of scheduled sessions at both the Bundestag and the Bundesrat were the reasons for delays which had to be expected. It might take until May or June. As a new poll conducted for ‘Bild am Sonntag’ shows, 61 percent of all Germans support mandatory Corona vaccinations.
In the meantime, Omicron is spreading quickly. Germany’s north-western part and Berlin are being hit the hardest right now. Berlin’s Seven Day Incidence just jumped to 685.7, which is an all-time high. Today, the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district is the city’s Corona hotspot, with an unbelievable Incidence of 885.0.

Once again, the Neukölln district is one of Germany’s Corona hotspots, with an Incidence level of 887.3. It is the highest Incidence ever registered anywhere in Berlin.
In Schleswig-Holstein, things do not look better. The Robert Koch Institute reported extremely high numbers for Lübeck (839.0), Kiel (693.4) and Flensburg (639.4). Located a bit further south, Bremen has the highest Seven Day Incidence of them all. It stands at 1,052.1 (no typo).

During their first Corona conference of the new year, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the First Ministers decide to change the rules yet again. Soon, persons who already got their booster vaccinations will still be allowed to enter restaurants, cafés and pubs without complications, while vaccinated people without booster will need (rapid) Corona tests as well.
The quarantine rules for ‘contact persons’ without symptoms are supposed to change too. Boostered individuals who were in contact with an infected person will not need to go into quarantine at all. Everyone else will have to stay isolated for ten days. After seven days, they may end their quarantine with a negative PCR test. It is unclear when exactly the new rules will apply.
In the meantime, the infection numbers are still on the rise. Germany’s Seven Day Incidence surpassed the 300 mark. In Berlin, it jumped from 416.9 to 511.5.

To Germany’s virologists, it is not a surprise that the infection numbers are increasing rapidly again, now that more reporting is being done again, after the Christmas vacations. The national Seven Day Incidence just jumped to 285.9. In Berlin, it surpassed the 400 mark again. Since yesterday, more than 64,000 new Corona cases were registered.
In Munich, hundreds of Corona deniers staged protests against the Corona restrictions yet again. Some of them tried to break though a police barrier. The officers had to use pepper spray and their clubs.

In Germany, the number of Omicron infections triples within a week. On December 28th, it was just above 10,000. Now, more than 35,000 cases have been confirmed. According to Berlin’s new Health Senator Ulrike Grote, Omicron just overtook the Delta variant in the German capital, with a share of 43.5 percent. Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey announced stricter Corona rules. The Senate would discuss the next steps to take after Friday’s Corona conference with Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Germany’s Health Minister Karl Lauterbach tells the ‘RND’ in an interview, the “heavy wave” that was rolling towards Germany needed to be confronted. He announced he would suggest further measures at the Corona conference. Lauterbach also told unvaccinated persons to get immunized now. Even a first shot would bring about “an important protection effect”.

As expected, Germany’s Corona infection numbers are on the rise again, now that the Christmas vacations ended in some federal states. More than 30,000 persons were infected in the past 24 hours. The Seven Day Incidence jumped to 239.9. As it turns out, the vacations slowed down Germany’s vaccination campaign. In spite of the serious situation, conspiracy theorists protested against vaccinations and the government’s anti-Corona measures in several cities.
“The unvaccinated are the problem”, Health Minister Karl Lauterbach states. Even first vaccination shots could save lives, he stresses. Chancellor Olaf Scholz’ Berlin government is worried the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus might lead to astronomically high infection numbers, as it did in the United Kingdom and other countries.

Health Minister Karl Lauterbach predicts Germany’s Corona infection numbers will increase substantially. In an interview with the TV channels RTL and ntv he says he was worried because many unvaccinated persons would be affected, but they did not have any protection. Lauterbach twittered many people would be sent to hospitals during the expected Omicron wave. The share of Corona patients who may have to be treated in intensive care units might not be that high, but since Omicron is far more contagious than the Delta variant, the health system could be overburdened anyway.
On Friday, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the First Ministers will hold their next Corona conference. According to Minister Lauterbach, decisions need to be taken about the quarantine rules. Persons who already got booster shots may not have to go into quarantine anymore, or the duration might be decreased. Quarantines for individuals who work in the “critical infrastructure”, including hospitals, the fire department and police stations, would be discussed too, Lauterbach said.

The Robert Koch Institute still says the interpretation of the latest numbers was difficult because there was less reporting and testing during the Christmas holidays, which are about to end tomorrow in several federal states. In the coming days, the numbers are supposed to become reliable again. In spite of this aspect, Germany’s Seven Day Incidence keeps on rising again. Today, it stands at 222.7.
As the police in Cologne confirmed, Health Minister Karl Lauterbach’s office in the city was attacked on New Year’s Eve. Windows were broken. Lauterbach said he believed the attack was launched by antivaxxers or Corona deniers. German-language media quoted him as saying it was sad that these groups had radicalized themselves. They had become obsessed. He also said he was receiving hate mail from within those circles. It is not the first time Lauterbach’s office was attacked.

Germany just extended its list of ‘High Risk Areas’. Canada, Italy, Malta and San Marino are now on it. Mauritius is not on the list anymore. Persons who enter Germany from ‘High Risk Areas’ need to go into quarantine for ten days unless they are fully vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 up to six months ago. After five days, they can end the quarantine with a negative Corona test.
The Corona numbers are increasing again slowly. There are 26,392 new infections, some 4,000 more than last Saturday. Because of the ongoing Christmas holiday, not all health authorities report their numbers right now, which is why the Robert Koch Institute says the data should be interpreted with caution.
In his new year’s speech, Chancellor Olaf Scholz talks about Corona. He says Germany should stick together and be quicker than the virus. That way, the pandemic could be defeated in 2022.

The Robert Koch Institute’s latest Corona numbers are reliable in the sense that they show exactly what has been reported in the past 24 hours. At the same time they are not because there is less reporting and less people are being tested for Corona during the ongoing holiday. Even though data from many regions are still missing, for now, the numbers available are increasing.
Germany’s Seven Day Incidence was 207.4 yesterday. Now it is 214.9. Berlin’s Incidence rose substantially since Thursday, from 256.2 to 281.0. The number of Corona-related deaths remains high. It is unclear whether the increasing numbers are connected to the Omicron wave experts are expecting to hit. According to Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, the numbers will paint a more accurate picture of the situation in about a week from now.

According to Germany’s Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, the country’s actual Seven Day Incidence is likely two to three times higher than declared. He said because of the ongoing holidays, many employees who worked for health authorities were “not there” right now. This was why infection numbers in many regions were not reported. Lauterbach said he expected the data to be reliable again by January 7th, 2022, which is when Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the First Ministers are scheduled to have their next Corona conference.
Germany is expecting an Omicron wave to hit in early January. So far, 13,129 Omicron infections have been confirmed. In other European countries, this more contagious variant of the Coronavirus already is the dominating mutation.
In Munich, hundreds of Corona deniers and other conspiracy theorists staged illegal protests on Wednesday night. Some participants attacked police officers. One thousand of them were on duty. They initiated 700 legal proceedings against participants. In some cases, they used their bats.

Omicron is spreading around Germany. In the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland and parts of Austria, the recently identified Corona mutation is already dominating the infection situation. Germany is not there yet, according to the official dat. But the number of Omicron cases is increasing rapidly. The week before last, 2,904 Omicron cases were confirmed. Last week, there were 6,257 additional ones.
After Christmas, the number of reported Corona infections seems to be on the rise again. More than 40,000 new Corona cases were registered since yesterday. It is the highest number since December 23rd. The Seven Day Incidence decreased to 205.5.

Exactly 700 days after the first Corona infection was confirmed in Germany, the numbers are decreasing. But, because of the ongoing holiday, not all health authorities and hospitals report their numbers. That is why the interpretation of the data is difficult.
In several German cities, anti-vaxxers, Corona deniers and other conspiracy theorists staged protests on Monday night yet again. At some locations, the situation escalated. In Bautzen, ten police officers were injured by violent protesters. Shortly after the pandemic hit Germany two years ago, the phenomenon of Corona deniers popped up. In spite of more than 110,000 Corona-related deaths and more than 7 million infections in the Federal Republic alone, they rally against measures designed to protect them, along with everyone else.

Because the reporting of Corona infection numbers paused over the holidays in many counties and cities, the official numbers are probably a lot lower than they should be. Germany’s total number of Corona infections just surpassed the 7 million mark, on the 699th day of the pandemic. This means there were 1 million infections per 100 days, statistically. After dropping substantially during Christmas, the number of new infections and the national Seven Day Incidence increased again on Monday. The same applies to Berlin’s Incidence.
Last week, the vaccination campaign, which includes first and second shots, but also boosters, continued at a high pace. On both Tuesday and Wednesday, more than 1.1 million persons were immunized.

The Robert Koch Institute reports the lowest number of new Corona infections in months. According to the data available, there are 10,100 of them. But since reporting stalls during the Christmas holidays, the actual number is likely a lot higher.
Even Ilm county in Thuringia, the nation’s Corona hotspot which had a four-digit Incidence until Saturday, is below 1,000 now. The national Incidence is 220.7, a lot lower than it has been in several weeks. But, because of the reporting issue, the RKI says the numbers should be interpreted with caution.

Virtually all Corona numbers decreased substantially on the first of two Christmas Days Germany celebrates. But the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) said “a lower testing and reporting activity” needed to be expected during the holidays. This means the actual numbers might be higher. Germany’s official Incidence level of 242.9 is a lot lower than it had been in the past several weeks, but a lot higher than the maximum registered in all previous Corona waves. Before the ongoing fourth wave, it never exceeded 200.
One federal state, Thuringia, still has an Incidence above 600. All others are below 500 now, including the other former hotspots Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. According to the Christmas numbers the RKI released, Berlin’s Incidence level decreased substantially, from 322.3 on Friday down to 280.5 on Saturday.

Germany declares more countries ‘High Risk Areas’. They are Portugal, Spain, the United States of America, Cyprus, Finland and Monaco. Travelers who enter Germany from there need to go into quarantine for ten days unless they are fully vaccinated (two shots minimum) or recovered from COVID-19 recently. They also have to register online before they enter the country. Austria, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Cyprus and Serbia were taken off the list.
During the Christmas holidays, not all health authorities in Germany report infection numbers. According to the Robert Koch Institute, there are at least 35,431 new infections today. The number of Corona-related deaths since Thursday is 370. Berlin’s Incidence decreased a little, for the first time in nine days.

At this stage, at least 540 persons in Germany are infected with the Omicron version of the Coronavirus, according to the President of the Robert Koch Institute, Professor Lothar Wieler. This is the official number of registered cases. The actual one might be a lot higher. Wieler said the fact that Germany’s Corona infection numbers were falling right now was no actual tension release. An overburdening of the German health system needed to be expected because of Omicron. He asked people to keep their contacts to a minimum during the upcoming Christmas days.
Health Minister Karl Lauterbach stated a fifth Corona wave could not be prevented from hitting anymore. According to him, booster vaccinations give people a protection of 70 to 80 percent in regard to symptoms, and one of more than 90 percent against a severe disease progression. Lauterbach said the Moderna vaccine was a good product which needed to be used for booster shots, also because it was available in large amounts.
While Germany’s infection numbers are falling right now, Berlin is moving against the Trend. For eight consecutive days, the capital’s Seven Day Incidence has been on the rise again.

In Germany, the last days of 2021 felt very much like the last days of 2020. Chancellor Olaf Scholz’ new government and the federal states agreed on new contact restrictions because of the spreading Omicron variant of the Coronavirus. From December 28th, 2021, the maximum number of persons who may gather is ten. As soon as only one unvaccinated person is involved, the rules become stricter. In this case, people from one household may gather with up to two persons from up to one more household. Children up to 14 years of age do not count.
Scholz and the First Ministers also decided to close all clubs, including discotheques. Germany’s critical infrastructure, including hospitals, the police, fire departments, ambulance operators, water and electricity suppliers and telecommunication service providers are supposed to implement their emergency plans for pandemics. The fear is that an enormous number of people will be infected or in quarantine soon and that this issue could prevent the critical infrastructure from functioning.
