EAGAN, MN —The Dakota County Library has announced several Zoom and in-person workshops this spring and summer designed to help job seekers improve their search and help small business owners strengthen their business practices.
Virtual Courses
At virtual “Resume Writing Workshops,” job seekers will learn how to create effective resumes, while learning how to use a resume to show a potential employer their value.
The topics covered include: formatting, styles, common mistakes, do’s and don’ts and more.
The workshop is presented by Dakota County CareerForce Center and is geared for adults. Registration is required.

A virtual course about “Virtual Interview Skills” will help attendees discover how to stand out from the crowd during their next virtual interview. The course will offer practice tips for setting up an interviewee’s space, answering interview questions and avoiding common mistakes.

A virtual course about “Setting up a Small Business and Website” will inform attendees about how to register a business name with the state and create an effective website to get their business noticed by consumers.

A virtual “Search Engine Optimization” course will teach attendees how to make their website discoverable online when their potential customers are searching in Google.

A virtual course called “Social Media Strategy: Content and Conversation” will teach participants how often to post on social media, which content to share and who can help create and extend conversations. They’ll also learn how to analyze results, handle critics and amplify their strongest applicants.

A virtual course about “Strategies for Job Searching” will help participants stay focused, organized and realistic when seeking new employment.
The course will offer practice tips for resume writing, networking, managing online profiles, interviewing and more.

In-Person Courses
A few in-person courses will take place at the Robert Trail Library, 14395 S Robert Trail, in Rosemount.
In “Microsoft Word,” attendees will learn basic features of Microsoft Word. They will learn to create documents using many of the software features, how to format, set margins and save documents.

In “Microsoft Excel”, attendees will learn the basics of Microsoft Excel through the example of a family budget.

In “Microsoft Publisher” participants will learn how to create signs, business cards, greeting cards and more using the desktop publishing program Microsoft Publisher.

Local residents also can get virtual Small Business Counseling with SCOREGet, which will offer one-on-one help from an experienced SCORE small-business counselor about how to start, grow and enhance a business.
