Annual 4-H Chile Roast
It’s chile roasting season for the Luna County 4-H. Members will be roasting and selling green chile from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on August 20 and 21 at the Southwestern New Mexico State Fairgrounds (4300 Raymond Reed Blvd.). Make your pre-orders now by calling 575-546-8806.. Your choice of mild or hot chile will be roasted and sacked for $30. A large sack of unroasted chile will be $40.
Moose 2088 activities
The Loyal Order of Moose located at 119 N. Gold Avenue is open at noon. Lodge members will host taco Tuesdays.
Steak dinners will continue on the firwst Friday of each month at the lodge.

Art show opening
The Deming Art Council invites the public to the art opening for the August exhibit. The two Las Cruces artists, Mary Lou LaCasse and Linda R. Sanchez, create unusual pieces fusing metal and clay. The event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022 at the Deming Art Center, 100 S. Gold Street.

Old Lincoln Days
The streets of Lincoln Historic Site will once again fill to the brim for Old Lincoln Days, Friday through Sunday, August 5-7. The Friends of Lincoln, The Last Escape of Billy the Kid Pageant, and New Mexico Historic Sites are excited for visitors to experience history where it happened with three days of fun for all ages. A particularly exciting feature of this year’s event will be on Friday night when Michael Martin Murphey, America’s #1 singing cowboy himself, will perform live ahead of the “The Last Escape of Billy the Kid” performance.
Take a trip to New Mexico of the 1870s and 1880s, explore museums and historic buildings, and walk the grounds where Billy the Kid, Pat Garrett, and other characters of the old west roamed in Lincoln, NM.
County requires burn permits
Luna County is requesting burn permits in the county. Permits are valid for up to seven (7) days from the date of issuance. Subsequent burning is subject to the requirements stated in Ordinance 84. It is your responsibility to read it and ensure that you follow said requirements.

Fair royalty packets
The Southwestern New Mexico State Fair Royalty Pageant Packets are now available at Circle S Western Emporium, Mimbres Valley Feed Store and Copper Kettle Coffee.
Girls in grades 1st-12th are invited to join the event. There will be prizes awarded to all who enter.
There will be a mandatory meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24th at the fairgrounds in Building 2. Please bring your entry packet and your parent with you at this time.
KLCB fundraising
Keep Luna County Beautiful is accepting letters of interest from youth-oriented community organizations for Illegal dumping and litter pick-up events around Luna County. Organizations can earn funds for their youth oriented group.
Organizations must commit to participate at one illegal dump site pick up and the Great American Cleanup or Toss No Mas cleanup events in order to earn the $1,000 or participate in the Great American Cleanup or Toss No Mas events, as well as one regular community trash pick-up event to earn the $500.
Letter of interest should include a brief description of your organization, what the funds will be used for and who will benefit from the funds. Letters must be addressed to:

Duck parade sign-up
Applications are now being accepted for the Deming-Luna County Chamber of Commerce Tournament of Ducks Parade. This is the signature event of the 43rd annual Great American Duck Race, Aug. 26-28 in Deming, NM.
Registration forms can be found at www.demingduckrace.com. Deadline for entries is 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022.
