SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Some local kids had the opportunity to meet a former NFL player Friday night.
Former Patriots Defensive End Jarvis Green visited the Springfield Boys and Girls Club to participate in ‘Tis The Season to be Reading. The event promotes literacy at all ages and children’s individual right to be free to learn and thrive, and holiday cheer of course!
“We as adults need to make informed responsible decisions, this is a celebration of literacy, of life, community,” said Gwen Samuel of the Connecticut Parent’s Union.
Kids with the Boys and Girls Club also presented local law enforcement with awards, thanking them for their hard work this holiday season. Senator Adam Gomez also helped to make this educational event possible.

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The City of Westfield is reinstating a city-wide indoor mask mandate Monday.
The Westfield Director of Public Health says the Board of Health voted unanimously last week to reinstate indoor mask use because of an increase of coronavirus cases. Masks or face coverings are now required when inside all public spaces. They are also required at outdoor spaces of 100 people or more when social distancing of six feet cannot be maintained.
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Gas prices in western Massachusetts have gone down, averaging $3.33 per gallon in the past week and stand $1.25 per gallon higher than a year ago.
According to Gas Buddy, the cheapest price for a gallon of gas in Springfield is $3.14 per gallon, the most expensive is $3.89 per gallon. Comparing to nearby areas, Worcester is currently $3.39 a gallon, Connecticut is $3.48 a gallon and Hartford is $3.43 a gallon.
GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – An investigation involving several law enforcement organizations lead to the arrest of a dozen people in connection with cocaine trafficking operation.
According to a statement issued by the Northwestern District Attourney’s Office, the arrests came following a seven-month investigation. Last week, police broke up an alleged cocaine trafficking syndicate that investigators believe distributed between 100 and 200 grams of cocaine a day through Northwestern Massachusetts.
