Forest of Dean District Council is providing free English lessons to foreign nationals in Cinderford to help them improve their language skills and settle in the community.
As part of a long term multi agency project in the area, the Community Builders Team at the Council have been building relationships with local businesses and foreign nationals, offering free English language skills training, beginning on the 23 March and funded by the Community Safety Partnership.
Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Paul Hiett said:
“As a council it’s extremely important to us that all residents feel welcome, safe and able to live their lives in the Forest of Dean. That is why our Community Builders Team is so important, having people on the ground who can talk to residents and businesses and help to resolve problems is invaluable.
“The work that the team have put in to build trust in the area has been incredible and the support that is being provided in helping people learn new skills is a huge benefit to all residents.
“I’d like to personally thank all members of staff who have been involved in the project so far and look forward to continuing this great work as we move forward.”
The team have worked directly with qualified EFL tutor Lisa Jones to develop leaflets and information in several different languages to assist the community of foreign nationals sign up for the free twelve week English language improvement course. The course will begin on the 23rd March and is being held at the Belle Vue Centre in Cinderford.
The Community Builders Team will be working with Cinderford residents, local businesses and schools to promote this and will be distributing leaflets in the area.
