I came across this free goldmine of learning just the other day. I hadn’t been aware of free courses that existed at this level. I had known about accessing Mango Languages through your local library, which I had used extensively the semester before my year-long foray in Germany to learn the language enough to be able to speak to the locals in the rural parts of the country. But I hadn’t known about this particular offering — courses in a wide variety of practical subjects, from tech and WordPress website building, to accounting and bookkeeping, to writing and publishing. And they are all available for free through your local library!
Since the library I belong to is the Toronto Public Library, I decided to take the course on there. I just used my library card to register. It was that simple!
Here is the link to Gales Courses from the TPL if you also have a TPL library card:

After browsing through just a portion of their extensive selection (naturally, I gravitated toward the writing and publishing course list), I settled on The Keys to Effective Editing. I quickly entered in my details and registered for it. I happened to come across this set of courses right on the start date for the month: October 12th. I wonder if that was a coincidence…? 🤔
Even Jasper knew about Gale Courses before I did (which means these courses have been around for a while, or at least for the past 2–3 years).
I asked my AI writing companion what it had to say about Gale Courses and this is what I got back:
