IIT Madras Free Online Courses on NPTEL that Can Be Helpful for Engineers – DATAQUEST

IIT Madras, an Institution of Eminence with the top ARIIA and NIRF rankings, offers several free online courses on the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) platform of SWAYAM, which is an initiative of the Ministry of Education. Interested students can take the online courses for free, and also opt to receive a certificate from NPTEL and IIT Madras by paying a nominal fee and taking an examination.
The courses will be conducted by IIT Madras faculty, and can be taken through laptops or any device that can be connected through the internet. The AICTE approved FDP courses are of twelve weeks duration and begin in September 2020, and the examinations will be conducted on 20 December. Candidates who successfully submit all assignments and take the examination will receive e-certificates with IIT Madras and NPTEL logos.

Advanced Concrete Technology Course for Civil Engineering Students: This course explores the materials science of concrete, and attempts to bring about the understanding of concrete behavior from a fundamental perspective. The course will be conducted by Dr. Manu Santhanam who is a professor at the department of civil engineering at IIT Madras. Those who wish to take the course can visit the official page.
Basic Electrical Circuits Course for Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering Students: The course deals with analysis techniques that can be applied to all electrical circuits. After taking this course, candidates will be able to analyze memoryless linear circuits. The course will be conducted by Nagendra Krishnapura who is an associate professor in the vlsi group of the department of electrical engineering of IIT Madras. Basics of Materials Engineering Course for Mechanical Engineering Students: The course aims at introducing the basic concepts of materials science and failure theories for design to undergraduate mechanical engineering students. The course will be conducted by Dr. Ratna Kumar Annabattula who is currently an associate professor in the department of mechanical engineering at IIT Madras. C Programming and Assembly Language Course for Computer Science and Engineering Students: The course is aimed at teaching students to look at how a C program is translated to assembly language and how it eventually gets executed on a microprocessor. The course will be conducted by Janakiraman Viraraghavan who is an Assistant professor at the department of electrical engineering, IIT Madras. Engineering Fracture Mechanics Course for Mechanical Engineering Students: The course covers the basic aspects of engineering fracture mechanics, spectacular failures that triggered the birth of fracture mechanics, modes of loading, classification as LEFM and EPFM, crack growth and fracture mechanisms, energy release rate, resistance, Griffith Theory of fracture, and so on.
