ISRO is offering a sponsored online course on Remote Sensing & GIS Technology and Applications for the faculty members of universities and their affiliated colleges as well as scientists, engineers, or officers working in government organisations. While the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (llRS) usually holds this training on ground every year, this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic the training is being offered online.
llRS under the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space (DoS), is a premier training and educational institute set up for training professionals in the field of remote sensing, geoinformatics and global positioning system technology for natural resource management. The Institute conducts ISRO-National Natural Resources Management System (NNRMS) sponsored Certificate course of 8 weeks duration every year.
The course aims at training faculty members in universities and their affiliated colleges in remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) technology and their applications, so that they can further train the students. Apart from faculty, the course can also be beneficial for government officials to develop an understanding of the subject and utilise the knowledge in their field of interest, says ISRO.
The participants would be required to submit a proof of their employment at the time of online registration such as ID card issued by the employer or a letter certifying the employment of the applicant.
The last date to apply for the course will be 8 June 2020 on the official IIRS website. The course will be conducted from 13 June to 1 July 2020. The course will be offered in two sessions from 10 am to 1 pm from Monday to Saturday. An interactive session will be conducted after each session. The online certificate will be awarded to all participants provided they receive the qualifying marks in an online examination that will be conducted. There is also a minimum attendance criteria that needs to be satisfied.
Candidates will need to have a computer or laptop with Windows operating system, a web camera, headphone with microphone, and speaker. Those interested to take the course are advised to go through the official notification in detail before applying for the same online.
