Miami, July 14, 2021 – Miami Dade College’s (MDC) School of Engineering and Technology (EnTec), The Idea Center @ MDC and Grow with Google team up once again to offer a third Google IT Automation with Python program, which culminates with a professional certificate at no cost. The new 17-week program is scheduled to begin July 26 at The Idea Center.
Even prior to the pandemic, MDC implemented resources for students and faculty to become better prepared for changes in the workforce. Students now have access to more programs, courses and certificates in high tech and high-touch skills that are in-demand to succeed in today’s workforce.
“Understanding our students’ needs is key when designing a learning experience that is based on constant support and real-life application,” said Gustavo Grande, Program Director at The Idea Center.  “This helps improve the motivation levels and increase completion rates from the global average of 15 percent for Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to more than 80 percent in the blended modality implemented at The Idea Center at MDC.”
The program prepares candidates to advance their career in information technology and culminates with a certificate that equips learners with job-ready skills with Python, which is currently one of the most in-demand programming languages by IT employers.
“As a native from South Florida, and as a product of the state’s public education system, I’ve seen how the right tools at the hands of leading institutions like Miami Dade College can accelerate the trajectory of learners towards acquiring the most in-demand skills,” said Hector Mujica, Economic Opportunity Lead at Google.org. “With this reinvestment in Miami Dade College, Google reaffirms its commitment to help prepare the community in South Florida for jobs in the digital economy.”
Applications are being accepted for the 30 seats available for the second cohort, which will be a blended program with sessions in-person and online. The program is open to anyone 18 and older who is interested in a career in information technology. Candidates should have foundational IT knowledge from previous education or IT-related work experience.
