STEUBENVILLE — New classes and returning favorites will make up the schedule of free after-school and Saturday classes being offered at the Sycamore Youth Center, located at 301 N. Fourth St., Steubenville.
The winter/spring second-semester class schedule begins Monday and continues through May 13.
“New classes include the Irish Step Dance Class, led by the Franciscan University Irish Dance Club; the civics class, led by Brendan Slovacek, and the cosmetology class (complete with mannequin heads the center just bought) led by Renee Thompson,” explained Bobbyjon Bauman, Sycamore program director. “We are up to 51 classes and I have 85 volunteers this semester working at Sycamore,” he said, noting the drama program will be putting on “The Magician’s Nephew” by C.S. Lewis this semester as well.
“We also were just approved to be a part of the ‘Tickets For Kids’ program and will reward students for their attendance and good behavior with tickets to the Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History, the Aviary, Pittsburgh Pirates and Penguins games, and more,” he added.
The Sycamore Classical Choir will be meeting this semester with plans for a concert in May.

All Steubenville City School Elementary and middle school students will be able to ride the SVRTA bus from the school to the Sycamore Youth Center but need to be picked up after their classes.

Sonshine Bible Club; art class; Whiz Kids Math Skills Class; traditional Irish Step Dance Class; martial arts program; cooking class; tumbling class; run, jump and play; science and creativity/art class; math skills class; Aspire Life Skills Class; Storytime, Crafts, Genealogy Class; Boys Bible Study; Girls Bible Study; Pyrography Wood Burning Art with pen class; cosmetology (hair, nails, and make-up) class; drama/acting class; Praise Band Class; Brass Band Class; tumbling class; Legacy Project Home/Auto Repair/Life Skills Club for Boys; Stampin’ Up Card/Craft Class; Young Entrepreneurs/Financial Literacy Class; civics class; Let’s Talk About It /Christian Leadership and Life class; Home Repair/Life Skills/Financial Literacy Class; Video Production/Creation Class; Hip Hop Dance Class; drama/acting class; Hip Hop Class; sewing, knitting and crocheting class; percussion/drumming class; Sycamore Classical Choir; Sycamore International Dance Class; Connect Young Adults Group; Cooking class; Business Builders Class; Martial Arts Program; Digital Design and Marketing Class; video games class; strength and conditioning physical fitness/kickball class; gardening class; and English country dancing.
On Saturdays, classes for all ages, including adults, are Dips & Dives square dance night; tutoring program; Dream Big Band Program; and swing dance.
