PSL 2022: The seventh season of the Pakistan Super League will kick off on January 27 in Karachi. Meanwhile, in the latest development, two players contracted the virus infection at the Peshawar Zalmi camp.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that Peshawar Zalmi players namely Kamran Akmal, Arshad Iqbal tested positive for the coronavirus pandemic just two days ahead of the start of PSL 7.
The infected players have been replaced by players from the reserves pool. The duo also underwent PCR tests during check-in at the team hotel for the upcoming season on the dates January 21 and 22 respectively.
Meanwhile, Imam-ul-Haq and Ammad Butt replaced the infected players for the games, according to the statement from the Peshawar Zalmi franchise. Nevertheless, the replacement is for the time being as per PCB.
The infected players can rejoin the squad after being done with the isolation spell. After that, they will have to submit negative PCR results. Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi will kick-start their campaign on January 28.
Peshawar Zalmi will be looking forward to doing well in the seventh edition of the Pakistan Super League. They will lock horns with Quetta Gladiators in their opening fixture.
Kamran Akmal was last seen in cricketing action in Leagues Cricket League 2022. He plied his trade for Asia Lions against India Maharajas. Kamran Akmal came under fire for his shoddy fielding performance.
Being one of the experienced wicketkeepers, he dropped a sitter behind the stumps. Hence, he gifted Naman Ojha a life. However, Ojha didn’t make most of the reprieve as he scored 20 runs.
Yusuf Pathan was the pick of the batters for India Maharajas as he scored 80 off 40 balls in the run-chase and guided his team to a victory. India Maharajas beat Asia Lions by 6 wickets in the first game.
On the other hand, fans are looking forward to witnessing the PSL extravaganza. Islamabad United are the most successful franchise in the competition with two titles. They are the only team to win two titles in the history of the Pakistan Super League.
Apart from them, four other franchises won a trophy each. They are none other than Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators, Karachi Kings, and Multan Sultans. Lahore Qalandars are the only franchise that are yet to win a title since the inception of the PSL.
Talking about the sixth edition of the Pakistan Super League, Karachi Kings carved out a reputation for themselves in the tournament when they got the better of Lahore Qalandars to win their maiden title in PSL 2021 season.
