TAFE NSW has announced a first-time offer to rollout a free animal behaviour course at the Orange campus for 2022, which will help to meet the growing demand for skilled workers in the animal industry.
Michelle Bond, Head Teacher of Animal Services the TAFE NSW Orange campus, said the Animal Care and Management Industry Reference Committee has identified animal attendants and trainers as the top occupation in demand within the animal services sector.
“There has never been a better time to join the animal services industry,” Ms Bond said.
“[And] having access to free training at TAFE NSW provides an excellent opportunity for people to get the training they need for the jobs they want”.

The Statement of Attainment in Animal Behaviour and Learning is being launched after the desire for companionship exploded during the peak of the COVID-19 lockdown era, which put a spotlight on the need to deliver a course based in animal education.
Animal Medicines Australia approximated a whopping 61 per cent of Australian households are owners of domestic pets, with our country now holding one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world; so it only makes sense that the sector’s need for more help is well and truly ‘a thing’.
“This new course will help boost the numbers of workers in animal care shelters and pounds, kennels, veterinary clinics, and training centres,” Ms Bond explained.
“It is a great entry-level qualification for those wanting to launch a career in the industry and provides an excellent foundation for work or further study”.

“The units are a combination of Certificate II and III units that can be auto credited into our current offerings of full training package qualifications after successful completion of the course”.
The free part-time course will begin in Orange on January 27, 2022.
