Tickets for the next Top 10 Takeover dining series event go on sale at noon Thursday for Free Press subscribers, with general ticket sales following at noon Friday. The event is July 6 at Mudgie’s Deli and Wine Shop.
The Top 10 Takeover series returned this year to in-person dining after pivoting to Top 10 Takeout amid the pandemic.
The series invites foodies in metro Detroit and beyond to experience the cuisine, service and ambience of the Freep’s 10 Best New Restaurants, Restaurant of the Year Classic and 2022 Restaurant of the Year.
At each dining event, guests are presented with a specially curated, multiple-course menu. They also have the chance to meet and chat with new Free Press dining critic Lyndsay C. Green and other Free Press staffers.
Mudgie’s, the much-loved Corktown spot, was owned by the late Greg Mudge and was named the 2022 Detroit Free Press Restaurant of the Year Classic. Mudge died at age 46 last year.
His death shocked the Corktown and restaurant communities.
Mudge posthumously earned the 2022 Sylvia Rector Lifetime Achievement Award for Hospitality.
“Mudgie’s  … with its hearty sandwiches layered with inches of fresh-cut meats, slices of local cheese and unexpected spreads, has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with its white-tablecloth contemporaries that opened in the early 2000s, and has since embroidered itself into the fabric of Detroit’s culinary scene,” Green wrote about Mudgie’s.
Mudgie’s has been nationally recognized for its sandwiches, topping many best sandwich lists. The spot is also known for its laid-back, comfy atmosphere and as well as its extensive wine shop.
