UGC has announced that this time non-engineering undergraduate and postgraduate students will be offered 123 free online courses on the SWAYAM platform. A total of 83 undergraduate and 40 postgraduate non-engineering Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) will be offered in July 2021. The UGC free online courses on SWAYAM will be available to all students pursuing their BA, BSc, LLB, MS, MSc, and other related degrees,
“UGC has shared Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds Regulations, 2021, which has an enabling provision for an institution to allow up to 40% (forty percent) of the total courses being offered in a particular program in a semester through the online learning courses offered through the SWAYAM Platform,” says the latest UGC circular.
University Grants Commission has also stated in the circular that in the current scenario of the second wave of the COVID-19, Universities and Colleges should make optimum use of the SWAYAM online platform for the benefit of the students or learners. UGC free online courses on SWAYAM may also be approved and adopted on the recommendation of dean academics or heads of department for credit transfer and ratified by the Academic Council.
The Universities that have accepted UGC free online courses on SWAYAM for credit transfer, and those in the process of accepting the SWAYAM courses for credit transfer will have to fill a UGC online form, adds the notification. “Looking at the current COVID-19 pandemic scenario, the Universities and colleges are requested to popularise these SWAYAM courses amongst Students and Faculty through websites and various social media handles,” says the official notification.
