Wareham Free Library adds film streaming service, restarts book club – Wicked Local

WAREHAM – The popular on-demand film streaming service Kanopy is now available for free at the Wareham Free Library. Library card holders can access Kanopy and sign up to start streaming films instantly by visiting https://warehamfreelibrary.kanopy.com.
Wareham Free Library users may watch up to five videos per month, watch up to two Great Courses, and choose from a selection of unlimited plays in Kanopy Kids.
Films can be streamed from any computer, television, mobile device, or platform by downloading the Kanopy app for iOS, Android, Apple TV, Chromecast, or Roku. More than 60 percent of Kanopy’s film offerings are not available through other streaming services.
Kanopy showcases more than 30,000 of the world’s best films, including award-winning documentaries, rare and hard-to-find titles, film festival favorites, indie and classic films, and world cinema with collections from Kino Lorber, Music Box Films, Samuel Goldwyn, The Orchard, The Great Courses, PBS, and thousands of independent filmmakers.
Kanopy Kids collection offers commercial-free films and TV series that inspire, inform and help children develop empathy, mindfulness, and self-esteem, The Kanopy Kids collection includes animated storybooks, family friendly movies, and popular titles like Arthur, Barbar, Sesame Street, Maya the Bee, and more.
Kanopy was founded in 2008 by CEO Olivia Humphrey as an educational tool for colleges and universities.
The Wareham Free Library will also restart its non-fiction book club with a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. The choice for December is the book, “West with the Night,” by Ethyl Markham.
Copies of this book are available at the circulation desk, and patrons may borrow e-books and e-audiobooks via the Library apps Libby or Hoopla. Attendees must wear a mask, as masks must be worn in all town buildings.
