April is Financial Literacy Month, and according to Westport resident Kerry Cudmore, that's a good time to think about your relationship with money. Cudmore offers free financial literacy classes through her website, spiritualfinance.com.
The classes are conducted on Zoom, once a week for five weeks, and offer new ways to look at money. Cudmore has been teaching financial literacy since 2008. In 2018, Spiritual Finance attained non-profit status.
The goals of the program include retooling how you relate to prosperity, abundance and success, clearing the emotional clutter of limiting financial beliefs, being comfortable in the "money conversation," and creating a healthy and empowering relationship with money and finance.
The next round of classes begin on Monday, May 23 and runs from 10 a.m. to noon. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required, but again, the classes are free.
During a visit this week to Townsquare Sunday, Cudmore admitted she is not a financial advisor; in fact, her own start with money was what she described as a "nightmare."
"It was complete chaos," she said. "I had piles of unopened bills, I had angry creditors calling me every day. I needed to change my relationship with money."
Through desperation and need, Cudmore said she figured out how to do it on her own and now she and other "teachers" are passing on the lessons they learned.
