SCORE Chester and Delaware Counties is offering the following free SCORE workshops and webinars in October.
This free webinar Oct. 4, 10 to 11:30 a.m., will introduce Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights, and Trade Secrets.
Understanding intellectual property and securing your rights is important for entrepreneurs.
Patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, collectively known as intellectual property or IP, involve legal rights that enable owners of those rights to exclude others from using the substance of that property.
With respect to each type of intellectual property, we will discuss: what is it, why is it useful, how does one secure these rights, and what are the possible costs involved.
We will also discuss IP business strategy and the upsides and downsides of relying on IP to secure or protect a competitive advantage, as well as the risks involved with respect to the IP of others.
About the presenter:
Paul Prestia had advised clients and represented them in a wide variety of intellectual property matters for over 40 years before retiring from the firm he founded and led, RatnerPrestia.
With an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering, his practice extended to essentially all technical fields but trended toward organic and pharmaceutical chemistry and mechanical and chemical manufacturing processes.
Trademarks, trade secrets, and copyrights were also part of Paul’s practice. That practice included acquisition, licensing and enforcement of all forms of IP, as well as advice on offensive and defensive IP business strategies.
