It was a pleasant morning in the national capital on Sunday with the minimum temperature settling at 16.5 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season’s average, the Met office said. The relative humidity at 8.30am was 70 per cent. Inmate stabbed in Mandoli jail, dies
A 39-year-old prisoner who was stabbed by two others in Mandoli Jail on Friday, succumbed to his wounds on Saturday afternoon. The man had been attacked following an old enmity, senior police officers said. The deceased has been identified as Mahesh, who was lodged in the jail since 2014, and was earlier involved in many criminal cases, including that of murder and extortion. One of the two accused is Raghunath alias Vicky, a member of Rohit Chaudhary gang.
Petrol price reaches Rs 109.34 per litre, diesel at Rs 98.07
Petrol and diesel prices increased for the fifth consecutive day on Sunday to touch record high levels across the country. With a hike of 35 paise a litre, the price of petrol in Delhi rose to its highest-ever level of Rs 109.34 a litre. The price of diesel also saw a hike by 35 paise and took the fuel’s rate to Rs 98.07 per litre in the national capital.

The Delhi Police has arrested a commander of the naxal outfit People’s Liberation Front of India from Dhaula Kuan area here, officials said on Saturday. DU releases fourth cut-off list
The Delhi University on Saturday released its fourth cut-off list, with unreserved category seats already filled in some much sought-after colleges like the Hindu College and the Shri Ram College of Commerce in the previous lists. New excise policy: Delhi may see rise in liquor prices
Liquor prices in the city might go up as private vends open from November 17 under the new excise policy of the Delhi government. The Delhi government’s excise department, which is in the process of fixing maximum retail price (MRP) of brands to be registered in Delhi, said in an order on Thursday that the wholesale prices of all types of liquor are likely to increase by 8-9 per cent. The air quality in Delhi remained poor for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday with stubble burning accounting for 12 per cent of the national capital’s PM2.5 pollution, government data showed. According to the Ministry of Earth Sciences’ air quality forecast agency SAFAR, over 1,800 farm fires were observed in the northwest region of Delhi on Friday. The Central Pollution Control Board’s data showed the capital recorded a 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) of 268.

Ahead of Diwali, the Delhi Police arrested two men from separate places and recovered over 150 kg illegal firecrackers from them, officials said on Saturday. The police nabbed 49-year-old Girdhari Lal with 115.1 kg of illegal firecrackers in central Delhi’s Paharganj area, police said. (PTI)

HC seeks Centre’s stand on plea for issuance of ration card to daily wage worker
The Delhi High Court has sought the Centre’s stand on a petition for issuance of ration card to a daily wage worker, who had applied for it eight years ago, after the Delhi government claimed that it has already reached the limit on issuance of cards set by central authorities. The Delhi government told Justice Rekha Palli that based on the 2011 census, the Centre has set a limit of 72 lakh ration cards, which stands exhausted and, therefore, it cannot be faulted for not having issued a ration card to the daily wager. Teachers and staffers of schools under the Delhi Directorate of Education, who have not taken a single dose of Covid vaccine till October 15, will not be allowed to attend school, according to an order. Officials will verify vaccination status through the Arogya Setu application or vaccination certificate produced by teachers and staffers, according to the order issued by the directorate on October 28.
