Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and all six HBL PSL franchises on Friday agreed that all teams may pick two additional players each in the Supplementary Category for the Pakistan Super League 2022 to be held from 27 January to 27 February.
The PCB has been hailed and credited for this decision, however, the PSL franchises have clarified that it wasn’t the PCB who directed the franchises to pick two additional players, but it was suggested by the franchises themselves.
The PSL franchises issued a joint statement after reports emerged that the board has allowed the teams to induct more players.
“With respect to the news circulating that the PCB has directed all franchises to pick additional players in their squads, we would like to state that this news is misleading and false. It was suggested by the franchises themselves to add two players to our squads even before the draft took place on December 12th, 2021. We are grateful to PCB for accepting our offer,” the statement read.
Media outlets Friday reported that due to a lot of top players remaining unpicked at the initial draft, the PCB directed the PSL franchises to add two additional players to their team.
However, the PSL franchises said that the decision was guided by them, not the PCB.
