MARLBOROUGH, MA — Residents in Marlborough and Hudson can take free safety classes this spring ahead of boating season. Thirty spaces will be available for classes beginning in late May.
Here’s more from a city of Marlborough press release:
Mayor Vigeant, along with the Marlborough Recreation Department, are excited to announce a boating safety course that will be free to the public. The course, which is open to all ages 12 and up, aims to provide personal watercraft operators with the proper training and education on safely operating a boat.
“Many of our residents and families enjoy recreational boating in the summer, especially at Fort Meadow Lake. We are excited to again offer this course in partnership with the Massachusetts Environmental Police and Ft. Meadow Association in order to promote safe boat operations for those as young as 12 years old,” Mayor Arthur Vigeant said.
“The Recreation Department in cooperation with the Ft. Meadow Association are offering the residents of Marlborough and Hudson the opportunity to participate in the Massachusetts Environmental Police boating class. Boating safety education is important for everyone out on the water. Boaters can keep themselves and their crew safe by learning about responsible boat operation, etiquette, and the rules of the waterways. Boaters can learn about all of these important subjects through this approved boat safety education course,” said Recreation Director Charles Thebado.
The course will consist of four individual classes held at Jericho Lodge (496 Brigham Street, Marlborough) on May 25, 26 and June 1, 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Marlborough and Hudson residents who are interested are required to register at this link using the class ID 4766.
The class capacity is 30 participants, and it is first come, first serve. In order to obtain the boating safety certificate, participants must attend all four classes and take an exam. The link to register and more information can also be found on the Recreation Department page of the City website: www.marlboroughma.gov/recreation-department.
