Tech giant Meta has recently launched five new entry-level programmes through Coursera for people seeking to launch a career in tech. The courses will be of eight months duration, beginning on August 22. Launched with the aim to bridge the skills gap, these courses will inspire learners to pursue a career in technology.
The courses are open to all and do not require prior coding experience or degrees as a prerequisite. Out of the five courses, two have been designed specifically for aspiring front- and back-end developers. The remaining two are dedicated to iOS and Android app development, while the fifth course teaches database skills.
Launched on one of the world’s largest online learning platforms, the courses can help professionals get certified for entry-level software developer jobs upon completion.
In a June 2021 report by McKinsey and Company, about 69% of workers said they need to improve their skills to propel their careers. At present, careers in IT are much more in demand than ever before. Development jobs, in particular, are expected to grow by 22% between 2022 and 2030, which is an above-average growth rate when compared to all other occupations.
Speaking on the need for such courses, Jeff Maggioncalda, CEO of Coursera says, “We think this’ll be a game-changer. Gen Z wants more work flexibility and compensation than ever before, so the tech industry is very appealing right now and these courses could be a great way to get them in.”
