PSL 2022: Pakistan’s premier T20 competition, Pakistan Super League has successfully completed six seasons so far since its inception. Meanwhile, the players are geared up for the seventh edition of the PSL.
The T20 tournament will commence from January 27 to February 27. Meanwhile, all the participating teams announced the list of retained players ahead of the competition. Interestingly, a new change is going to take place in the next season.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has now permitted all the existing franchises to pick 2 more players in the Supplementary category. The cricket board also gave an official statement about this matter as well.
Meanwhile, the franchises feel this is indeed a very good decision taken by the PCB. The statement mentions that this decision will help offer more opportunities for local players. Moreover, this will also help in their growth and development.
The statement also further mentioned that this decision will also let the teams have additional players in their squad. This will be useful for them when the situation totally goes beyond control.
“Although each side can select one foreign player each, the decision opens up opportunities for the local emerging cricketers to experience franchise cricket that will contribute to their grooming and development.
“Separately, this will also provide extra players to the teams, should they require for reasons beyond their control,” read the statement released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Meanwhile, the statement added that the extra players will be selected in a Replacement Draft Session. This particular session will kick-off virtually on January 7, 2022. The Karachi Kings will have a go first which will be followed by Lahore Qalanders.
After that, Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans and Peshawar will then get an opportunity to pick the players in the same order. Meanwhile, this particular order was decided based on a random draw.
As far as the second pick is concerned, the order of the teams will be reversed. This is how the procedure goes. “The teams will pick additional players in the Replacement Player Draft, which is expected to take place through a virtual session on Jan 7, 2022.
“Karachi Kings will have the first option to pick the first additional player, followed by Lahore Qalandars, Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, Multan Sultans and Peshawar. This order has been decided through a random draw.
“Using the reverse order format, the second picks will be as follows: Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans, Quetta Gladiators, Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings,” concluded the statement.
