Good Samaritan Medical Center’s Level II Trauma Program is having a free “Stop the Bleed” training program that teaches participants how to control bleeding for a victim before medical personnel arrive at an emergency scene.
“The purpose of this class is to better prepare the public to save lives by raising awareness of basic actions to stop life-threatening bleeding following everyday emergencies, man-made disasters, and natural disasters,” said Grace Dobbertin, trauma outreach and injury prevention coordinator at Good Samaritan Medical Center, in a news release. “This course contains knowledge that is particularly important for caregivers of children and seniors, outdoor enthusiasts who recreate in remote areas, and students interested in exploring careers in the medical field.”
Individuals will be shown three fast actions which are packing, pressure, and tourniquet techniques to save a life and control severe bleeding.
The next free class is 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday and will be in-person. The class will be offered almost every month this year and varies in terms of in-person and virtual. Space is limited. To register and to see a schedule of classes, visit bit.ly/3srBJpI.
The 60-minute training session, located at 200 Exempla Circle in Lafayette is part of the program through the American College of Surgeons.
