Machine learning is a rapidly growing industry, creating a predicted 58 million available jobs in 2022, according to a 2018 report
While there are plenty of job opportunities in the field, learning the skills needed can require money and free time that not everyone can easily commit to. That’s why Udacity, an online learning platform focusing on popular programming and tech skills, created an AWS Machine Learning Nanodegree scholarship, which will be awarded to 425 students.
The program, which focuses on teaching students object-oriented programming and machine learning basics in Amazon Web Services (AWS), is fully online and self-paced, making it accessible to people who work during the day.
To apply for the scholarship, students must first sign up for the free AWS Machine Learning Fundamentals course by July 12 and complete it by October 11. After that, the top 425 students (calculated by looking at quiz scores) will be selected for a full scholarship for the Nanodegree program. (You can learn more about Udacity’s Nanodegrees here.)
Keep reading below to learn more about the rules, deadlines, program length, and more.
Students will be working directly on the Amazon Web Services platform, so they’ll need an AWS account to work on the console, but the exercises can be completed through the AWS Free Tier services.
The process is split up into two phases.
To apply for the scholarship, you must first enroll in the free AWS Machine Learning Fundamentals course (Phase 1) by July 12. If you complete the course and online quiz assessment by October 11, you will be eligible for a full scholarship (Phase 2).
The free online course is self-paced, so Udacity recommends spending about 3-5 hours per week for about 3.5 months on it if you want to finish by the October 11 scholarship application deadline.
At the end of the course, students will be given an online quiz assessment to test their knowledge. The top 425 performing students will receive a full scholarship to the AWS Machine Learning Nanodegree program. The deadline to finish the course and assessment is October 11, and winners will be announced on October 21.
According to Udacity, students should plan to dedicate around 10 hours per week for about 3 months to finish the Nanodegree program, which is also self-paced and fully online.
Yes. Even if you finish the course but don’t get the scholarship or pursue the Nanodegree, you will still get a certificate for that course.
If you finish the Nanodegree program, you’ll get a separate, Nanodegree certificate as well.
Both offer certificates may be added to your resume or LinkedIn profile for employers to see.
