Siobhan Nelson is one of a new generation of female electricians after completing the SPARK Ginninderry Women in Trades Program.
The financial barrier to studying was broken down thanks to free training through the JobTrainer program.
Siobhan has since secured an apprenticeship and encourages other women to get involved.
“Take on the opportunity if you want to do a JobTrainer course,” Siobhan said.
“It really is helpful that the government is breaking down those financial barriers and gives you a great opportunity to find a career that you can potentially love and enjoy.”

JobTrainer offers free vocational education and training to school leavers, young people and job seekers across Canberra in areas of employment growth.
Courses and qualifications are now available across a range of industries, including aged care, disability care, digital skills and early childhood education and care.
This is one of the ways the ACT Government is supporting the economy as we emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic.
