Yolo County Supervisors Don Saylor and Angel Barajas sent off youth from Knights Landing to free swimming lessons earlier this week, just in time for the official start of summer.
On Tuesday, kids boarded a bus at the Family Resource Center in Knights Landing, courtesy of Yolo County Transportation District, and were transported to Davis for swimming lessons.
The lessons, offered by SwimAmerica, were thanks to a collaborative effort between Barajas and Saylor, Davis Sunrise Rotary, Yolo County Transportation District and community resident Maria Martinez. The swimming lessons were previously on a two year pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Barajas and Saylor have been collaborating with the Davis Sunrise Rotary since May 2021 to provide more activities and resources to Knights Landing and its youth, according to a press release.
“We are incredibly excited to provide free swim lessons for the youth of Knights Landing,” Barajas said. “Not only do swim lessons help save lives, but it provides physical and social development for our youth. This is an activity we hope to continue every summer.”
