Build a Multiplayer Kart Racing Game From Scratch in Unity will walk you through the setup and development of your own go-kart experience using Unity 2019 and Photon networking software.

Super Mario Kart (1992) and Crash Team Racing (1993) popularized the kart racing genre, which dates back to the 1980s (1999). With well-known fictitious characters and funky tracks riddled with pickups and hurdles, the genre combines driving and arcade mechanics. The skills of networking, artificial intelligence, gui design, special effects, and audio are all needed to create such a game.

Penny uses her critically renowned teaching style and experience from over 25 years dealing with gaming, animation, and having published two award-winning books on games AI to expose the most common AI strategies used for developing NPC racing character behavior in games in this course. Throughout, you’ll be guided through hands-on workshops that will walk you through every stage of creating your own kart racing game. To make a multiplayer game, you’ll start by creating a single-player environment with intelligent NPC components, then add networking features with a Photon master server.

Learn to program and deal on the following:

Unity’s wheel colliders and rigid bodies were used to build car physics and controls from the ground up.

Waypoint navigation, smart acceleration and braking, and avoidance behaviors are all available in AI-driven vehicles.

Mini-maps of race tracks, including player locations, rear-view cameras, and leaderboards;

Setting up a master registry, remote procedure calls, and networked object instantiation are all possible with Photon.

Vehicle types and player names are chosen from a pool of characters; and

Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) are graphical user interfaces.

Overview and ContentsThe course starts with a comprehensive overview of Unity’s vehicle dynamics scheme. A four-wheeled vehicle will be designed from the ground up using wheel colliders and rigid bodies, with every setting investigated and all potential features checked and put through its paces in order to achieve the ideal combination of skid, acceleration, braking, and weight. This technology will then be converted to a high-quality Kart model and installed in a race track world, where artificial intelligence mechanics will be applied to create non-player character vehicles capable of driving around the track while avoiding or violently bumping other players.The course starts with a comprehensive overview of Unity’s vehicle dynamics scheme.
