NIBONG TEBAL: Firefighters battled for over eight hours to put out a fire at a warehouse storing chemicals in the Valdor industrial area in Sungai Bakap here today.
Penang fire and rescue operations officer, Tarmizi Abdul Salam said the first fire brigade from Sungai Bakap was deployed after an emergency call at 5.45am.
“They found the fire raging and an estimated 70% of the warehouse was affected, covering an area of 3,716 sq m. The warehouse stored various chemical and flammable liquids, causing the fire to spread quickly,” he said.
He said 10 fire engines and more than 100 officers and firefighters, assisted by volunteer firefighters, were involved.
Tarmizi said the firefighters were in the final stage of dousing the fire at 5pm today, and his team was making sure the embers were completely extinguished.
